twitch Streamer Felix Lengyel, aka xQc, is no stranger to controversy. He is one of the most popular streamers on the platform behind channels like Ninja, TFue, and Auronplay, and thrives in the Just Chatting category. Most of his Twitch debates happen very publicly on stream or via social media, which can make them quite the spectacle.

In recent days, Twitch audiences and subreddits like r/LivestreamFail have been discussing a feud between xQc and Hasan Piker, aka HasanAbi on Twitter and other platforms, which has led other streamers to take sides as inter-community toxicity brews. What started as a public split has grown into a more complicated debate, especially alongside criticism of the platform, as Twitch creators are accused of sexual assault amid other controversies.

Breaking up of xQc and Adept creates big drama

The first drama kicked off after it was publicly announced on September 16 that xQc and his girlfriend, streamer adeptthebest (who prefers to use Adept), had split. Although xQc and Adept have broken up before, it’s likely that this will be the last time xQc mentions that she didn’t get along with his brother and that their relationship was always turbulent.

After xQc announced the breakup on stream, Adept responded to the clip by calling it “really cringe” that her ex-boyfriend thought everyone should know. She had reportedly asked to keep the details private, but xQc had made it public anyway because he often “did whatever he wanted to do whenever he wanted.”

After the breakup, xQc called Adept over the phone on stream, and the two had a long chat in front of thousands of viewers. He claimed he made the phone call to allow her to explain her perspective so that xQc wouldn’t misrepresent what she said. Some fans believed he was cultivating content from the relationship, while others pointed out that Adept answered the call and spoke knowing xQc was streaming.

Streamers Clash Over QTCinderella’s ‘Shitcamp’ Event

The public split led to xQc announcing that it would not be attending “Shitcamp,” an event where popular Twitch streamers participate in challenges and games, hosted by streamer QTCinderella. The last-minute decision left many people upset that xQc wouldn’t keep its promise to attend, similar to how it declined to join streamer Mizkif’s Creator Clash in May.

At first, xQc claimed he wasn’t going to Shitcamp because longtime streamer Sodapoppin wasn’t going, leading to Hasan calling him out for what he felt wasn’t enough reason. Then xQc later clarified that his choice came because he was simultaneously mourning his breakup with Adept and dealing with family problems.

Before posting this reveal, Hasan tweeted that “shooting xQc at the last minute on Shitcamp is obviously bad” because QTCinderalla “pulled her ass for the event and spent a lot of her own money creating content for everyone.” The two began arguing over a stream on Sept. 21, where Hasan said he “called.” [xQc] for treating other content creators as NPCs and not showing up at the last minute,” which he says is disrespectful.

However, Hasan apologized for attacking xQc’s decision not to go to Shitcamp, as he felt the recent breakup was a more appropriate reason. In recent days, they’ve largely moved away from discussing the breakup and the Shitcamp situation in favor of arguing over different perspectives on Adrianah Lee’s sexual assault allegations against streamer CrazySlick.

It remains to be seen what will become of the two streamers as both xQc and Hasan once called each other friends and had relatively friendly Twitch communities. As it goes on the internet, people should not assume that they know what is going on in someone’s personal life. This case is also a great example of being aware of which arguments are performative to attract viewers while discussing more serious issues across platforms such as twitch.
