Uncharted 2

If you are a fan of the not mapped video game series or the 2022 action adventure movie that served as a prequel to the game titles, you may be interested in a sequel movie. You may also want to see a sequel if you’re a fan of Tom Holland, the young actor who played Nathan Drake, the film’s main hero.

But will there be one Uncharted 2? Or is it game over for this potential franchise? Here’s what we know:

What is Uncharted about?

In this prequel movie, we meet the clever Nathan Drake (Tom Holland) before he becomes the legendary treasure hunter from the Naughty Dog game franchise. However, this is not to say that he does not hunt for treasure in this film. He is recruited by Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan (Mark Wahlberg), his friend and mentor from the game series, to locate the 500-year-old lost fortune amassed by Portuguese explorer Francis Magellan. Thus begins his first adventure with Sully and his first world trip.

Unfortunately, Nathan’s already difficult mission is made even more difficult by the ruthless Santiago Moncada (Antonio Banderas) who is also on the hunt for the treasure. Nathan races around the world to get his hands on the treasure before Moncada gets his hands on it, but further complications arise for our hero when the rogue fortune hunter, Chloe Frazer (Sophia Ali), also appears on the scene.

Will Nathan find the treasure?

Well, there won’t be any spoilers here. But if you want to know more about the first not mapped movie, check out our review and the Ending Explained article.

Will there be an Uncharted 2?

At the moment of writing, Uncharted 2 has not been confirmed.

The chances of a sequel usually depend on the involvement of the main cast and crew, the critical reviews and box numbers.

In terms of reviews, the critical reception was mixed. We gave the movie 7 out of 10 and stated it was entertaining and true to the source material. Other reviewers were less than positive, but many still agreed that it was one of the better video game adaptations out there.

Despite the mixed critical reactions, the film did well at the box office. It has a worldwide gross of over $400 million, which is good numbers for a film with a $120 million budget.

Because of these high numbers, a sequel is likely. But as we said, this depends on the cast and crew. Are they interested in coming back for more?

Mark Wahlberg is open to the idea, according to Newsweek, but there are conditions attached. In an interview, Wahlberg said:

“As the [Uncharted] fans really love the movie and they want another one, and that question is there. And [if] If we can make it better than the first, I would.”

But what about Tom Holland? He’s a fan of the games, so it can be assumed he’d be happy to sign up for more not mapped movies. However, he wasn’t completely happy with his performance in the first film, according to his interview with GQ, and there’s been the suggestion that he may not be returning to the role of Drake. He said:

“Once you start worrying about ‘Do I look good in this picture?’ acting is going to be different from playing a character, I think there are elements of my performance in Uncharted where I got a little bit into ‘I want to look good right now. I want this to be my cool moment.’ I had to play this very tough, very stoic guy – actually Mark Wahlberg My character should be an action hero right now!

Look, I didn’t see it, so I don’t know if I succeeded. But it was an important lesson learned because sometimes it was less about landing a mark and going through this scene and more about landing a mark, standing like this and seeing my bulging biceps… It was a mistake and is something I will probably never do again.”

Sure, Holland might be more interested in returning to the role if he can bring more depth to the character (besides just looking strong and cool), but for now we can only hope he makes a comeback if the right one. conditions are aligned.

What could Uncharted 2 be about?

The first movie ended on a cliffhanger involving Nate’s long-missing brother, so we suspect a reunion between the two would be part of the sequel’s plot. There is also a chance that Uncharted 2 could follow the story of one of the sequels of Sony’s gaming franchise. The first film featured scenes that game fans will recognize from the series, but was not based on a single title.

This is just speculation as without confirmation of a sequel we are literally in uncharted territory. But if you’re a fan of the games, you probably know more about potential plot points than movie viewers unfamiliar with the Playstation titles.

Who could be in Uncharted 2?

Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will hopefully return if Nate and Sully is given the green light as a sequel, and there is a chance that Sophia Ali could also return as Chloe. You shouldn’t expect to see Antonio Banderas in the sequel or Tati Gabrielle playing his ambiguous mercenary, but in case you haven’t seen the movie, we won’t explain the reasons here.

When would Unchartered 2 come out?

Since a sequel has not been confirmed, it’s hard to say at this point. The first film had a long journey to the big screen due to director and writer changes and the inevitable problems caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope Uncharted 2 doesn’t have the same delays, but as Tom Holland recently suggested on an acting break, it may be a while before we get to see a sequel.

That’s all we know for now, but if there’s any news about a sequel, we’ll try to update this page with new information.
