A total war

As for the battle, the previous arcs usually depict it as two groups of people fighting against each other. In Soul Society Arc, Ichigo and his friends face off against various captains of the Gotei 13. In the Arrancar Arc, we see Ichigo, his friends and several shinigami from the Gotei 13 face off against Aizen and his minions. In the Thousand Years’ Blood War, however, we see the entirety of the Soul Society fighting against the full power of Quincy.

Of course, we can say that only the fighters of both races are directly involved in the battle. The Sternritter vs. the Gotei 13 Captains. But make no mistake, this is without a doubt an all-out war between the two races. Since this isn’t just any random attack, Quincy brings a thousand-year-old grudge and plans to repay it in full and wipe out every shinigami in soul society.

Not only that, the implication behind Quincy invading the Soul Society, and the ultimate plan of the king of Quincy, will affect not only Soul Society, but also the human world and Hueco Mundo. Yes, Aizen’s plan in the Arrancar arc also poses a threat to the human realm, but this arc takes it to a whole other level. We are talking about the collapse of every known empire. Therefore, the fight against Quincy is not only a matter of defending against an invader, but also a battle to prevent an apocalyptic event.

New faces, new powers

As with any other storyline that precedes it, the Millennial Blood War will introduce tons of new faces. Most of them come from Quincy’s side, but we’ll also get to see some new characters from the shinigami side. For Quincy, there are about 30 new characters that will make their appearance in this arc. Most are members of the Sternritter. As for the shinigami, there are about 10 new faces in this arc.

Naturally, new faces come with new powers. After all, each Sternritter has their own unique powers bestowed upon them by the King of Quincy. While some are a bit like the powers of other characters in the previous arcs, most of them are brand new powers that we’ve never seen before. Not only that, there are also new powers coming from the old characters. Ichigo will discover some new powers, we get to see new Bankai from other characters, and there are also captains who unlock powers beyond a regular Bankai.

Excellent fight scenes

New people and new powers mean we’re in for an even more remarkable battle than ever before in this series. From masterful sword fights to over-the-top fire explosions and thunderous attacks, and even to a thrilling battle that engulfs the entire city, so many thrilling battles take place in this arc.

Some battles involved several people at once, while others were the good old fashioned one against one. Some battles are just a straight forward battle for strength and power, while others are quite complex and require ingenuity and trickery. The fight between Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi and one of the Sternritter is certainly one of the highlights in this arc. So definitely look forward to that.

No more secrets

There are many secrets and questions about the overall story of Bleach. Small things like the truth about Ichigo’s mother to something big like what the real connection is between the different realms of the worlds. Every secret will be revealed and every question answered in the Thousand Years’ Blood War. Even the truth behind Ichigo’s power will be thoroughly explained here.

Thousand-Year Blood War is definitely better than most of the storylines from other shounen mangas. That said, most avid fans of Bleach wouldn’t choose Thousand-Year Blood War as their favorite arc. Because while it’s certainly the most grandiose storyline in the series, it still has its weaknesses. That’s why, even though you may feel excited for the new season, keep your anticipation in check so that you don’t expect too much from this arc and just enjoy it for what it is, an exciting and very entertaining shounen anime.
