A new machine learning model from Lambda Labs allows users to enter any prompt and create a unique pokemon. While the results are complex, the process is relatively simple. The model extracts from a database of subtitled images of pokemon and generates a new image based on the user’s prompt. While examples with the model Barack Obama, Donald Trump and My neighbor TotoroAnother natural place to start would be linking two of Nintendo’s biggest franchises.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Like the DALL-E program, which uses artificial intelligence to generate a user’s image, Lambda Labs’ model produces better images with more specific clues. Using a simple prompt such as “Link” will likely produce a fairly abstract picture compared to more precise inputs such as “Link from Breath of the Wild like a fox.” The resulting image is always displayed in a pokemon style regardless.

Princess Zelda

The pokemon version of Princess Zelda is pretty good, especially considering that the prompt was meant to portray Zelda in her Ocarina of Time version. Since the image produced is clearly based on the young Zelda in Ocarina of Timeit is appropriate that the result is a Pokemon that looks like a base evolution.

This Pokemon vaguely looks like it could fit in as a Psychic type – matching Zelda’s increasingly prominent magical abilities that allow her to fight against The Legend of Zeldathe strongest villains. The only kind of anomaly in the rendering is the overwhelming greenery used for Zelda’s pokemonalthough this is probably pulled straight from Link’s tunic.

Ganondorf

In another astonishingly accurate rendering, Ganondorf’s wicked expression and red-yellow eyes remain perfectly intact in a Pokemon that looks quite powerful. The model did a fantastic job of catching both Ganon and Ganondorf in one Pokemon. Unlike Princess Zelda’s rendition, the Pokemon version of Ganondorf is clearly higher in the evolution chain and appears to possibly be a Legendary-level creature. In front of The Legend of Zelda‘s most famous villain, there could be no alternative.

This one Pokemon brings a huge amount of flavor from the Breath of the Wild version of Link but misses the mark compared to Ganondorf and Zelda. The tunic is perfect, and probably more than enough for most fans to identify who it should be, but the rendering seems to draw too much on Link’s leather gloves and sheath, leaving his iconic blonde hair on the side. As with most renderings, the eyes are just right and the expression seems perfectly suited to Link. The resulting Pokemon also seems to be just right for the main character, not as intimidating as the Ganondorf rendition, but just powerful enough to be both an underdog and the hero who could potentially save the day.

Happy mask seller

The Happy Mask Salesman helped make Majora’s mask one of Nintendo’s darkest releases yet, and the pokemon display is no different. Unsurprisingly, using one of the creepiest characters in the franchise, as input, creates a Pokemon that is pure nightmare fuel. The resulting hybrid is a little more at home in a Wes Craven movie than a pokemon game, but somehow also perfectly captures the essence of the Happy Mask Salesman.

For what it’s worth, the Pokemon version of the Happy Mask Salesman can’t be anything but a Ghost type pokemon. While it may not look too similar to the character in the game visually, its ability to upset audiences would be remarkably similar.

Malon

Malon, who lives on Lon Lon Ranch, appears as nothing but a horse-like pokemon with her signature red hair for fur. It’s hard to imagine a more accurate representation than this one, with Malon’s character inextricably linked to horses. The only possible complaint is that the Pokemon version of Malon seems a bit more aggressive than the good-hearted girl fans know from Ocarina of Time. It’s also fair to say that Malon of all views would fit seamlessly into a pokemon game than the other, seems pretty close to the fan favorite in design pokemon such as Ponyta or Arcanine. As she seems, Malon is probably a mid-level pokemon which is either a Fighting or Fire type.

Midna

The problem with one of The Legend of ZeldaBest of all, Midna already looks vaguely like she’s a… pokemon. As a result, all attempts to get a pokemon often take her further away in the process. Still, the result here is quite promising. She appears as a bat-like pokemon with her electric blue highlights dominating most of her Pokemon form.

Like Malon, it’s pretty easy to imagine this version of Midna in a… pokemon game. Unfortunately, she’s definitely a low-level Pokemon and probably the basic form of a longer chain of evolution. On the plus side, Midna looks exactly like the kind of Pokemon with an extremely powerful last evolution. As for the type, she could fit in a wide range from Psychic, Dark, Electric or even Poison.

tingling

Whether fans love him or hate him, Tingle is one of the most iconic characters from The Legend of Zelda franchise in terms of design. Fortunately, its simplistic design also lends itself perfectly to the text-to-image model, and the resulting Pokemon is true to the character. To boot, Tingle might be the only character on this list that can be inserted into pokemon without even a name change, as Tingle seems to fit the resulting Pokemon hybrid just as well as the original character.

As a result of his bright green suit, Tingle would always tend to be a Grass or Bug type Pokemon, but the liberal use of his red nose color in the render makes him a little harder to place. Anyway, Tingle seems far from a powerhouse Pokemon and is at best the kind of creature that pokemon players would encounter in the earliest stages of the game.
