Zoo Boo kicks off its month-long October celebration this weekend | Thanks to Houston Zoo

Top 12 Things to Do for Kids and Families in Houston This Week

  • Waller County Fair in Hempstead | Monday 26 September to Saturday 1 October – Support and promote cattle-loving youth in Waller during a week-long celebration of events, live music and more. Kids can enjoy the carnival games and attractions, and don’t miss the rodeo, calves and other animals at the fairgrounds. Day passes are $30; $5 for children ages 6 to 12; free for children aged 5 and under. Season passes start at $40. Times vary.
  • CoComelon Live at Smart Financial Center | thursday september 29 – Bring the family for a Broadway-style musical production and adventure, encouraging parents and children alike to get out of their seats to sing and dance along. $32 and up. 6 p.m.
  • Segundo Barrio Children’s Choir at Children’s Museum Houston | thursday september 29 | FREE – In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, watch Houston’s first and only bilingual children’s choir perform during a special free family night in the museum district. 6.30 pm.
  • Raya and the last dragon Movie screening in Levy Park | Friday September 30 | FREE Take the family outside for a screening of the Disney animated film 2020, Raya and the last dragon, at Levy Park. 7:30 p.m.
  • Raptor Fest at Houston Audubon’s Raptor and Education Center | Friday September 30 & Saturday October 1 Celebrate the owl, eagles and other birds of prey that hunt with their feet at this two-day festival that features diorama crafts, coloring pages, painting, mask making, face painting, games and more. Tickets are $10; $5 for kids (no age listed). Face painting and owl photo activities cost $5 each. 10am to 3pm.
  • Boo on the Boardwalk at Kemah Boardwalk | Friday September 30 to Sunday October 2 | FREE – Weekends get insanely fun on the Kemah Boardwalk with the opening of the month-long Halloween themed party with activities, live music and trick-or-treating in the shops. Times vary.
  • Oktoberfest at Sugar Land Town Square | saturday 1 october | FREE Flying Saucer Biergarten opens more than 50 taps for a Bavarian Oktoberfest celebration at Sugar Land, also featuring a vintage and craft Boho market with 50 local makers. Expect Oktoberfest games and competitions, including the Dachsund Dash, stein races and stein-holding competitions. And marvel at roaming jugglers, stilt walkers, tarot readers and other special surprises. Free; beer tastings start at $25. 4pm to 9pm.
  • Salsa and Salud at Miller Outdoor Theater | Saturday October 1 | FREE – Move and shake to the energetic performances of the Modern Music Foundation that will celebrate their 10th anniversary with an evening of salsa performances, dance theater, visual arts and more fun for the whole family. 7:30 p.m.
  • Houston Pride Brand presents Anime Sing at MATCH | saturday 1 october – The Houston Pride Band plays music from beloved video games and animated series in a concert that celebrates the worlds of gaming, anime and cartoons. $15. 8pm.
  • Zoo Boo opening weekend at Houston Zoo | Saturday October 1 & Sunday October 2 – Bring your little ghosts and goblins to celebrate the fall festivities at the Houston Zoo for the opening of their month-long Zoo Boo. There will be a Pumpkin Lantern Tunnel between the lion and tiger exhibits, a spooktacular Scary-Go-Round, photo ops at the zoo and much more. $20.20 and up. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
