Top games releases for September 2022

Welcome to my list of the top games to be released in September. Summer is coming to an end and fall is just around the corner, and a ton of great looking games are heading our way. Here are the five I’m most excited about – including some titles I really should have played in the past that are now being released on the current console generation, and one that lets you unlock in-game items, not microtransactions!

The last of us Part 1 – September 2nd

PS5, PC

The last of us part 1 originally came out in 2013, but then I didn’t have a console to play it on. The game has been rebuilt for PC and PS5 with more realistic lighting effects and better character and environment details that will make this a new experience for returning players.

I’ve heard so many good things about this game, so I can’t wait to try it out before the show airs on HBO in 2023!

LEGO Brawls – September 2nd

PS4, PS5, Xbox One, XBox X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC

lego brawls

Another battle game enters the ring, this time featuring one of everyone’s favorite toys, LEGO. The best part is that once you buy the base game, there are no more in-game transactions – all weapons and cosmetic items can be found right in the game. This is especially amazing because it looks like these were all pulled straight from real LEGO building sets!

Can’t wait to fight up to eight other players in a free-for-all match in a themed phase based on Jurassic World. I think this is going to be a hugely popular game for obvious reasons, so be sure to check it out!

Disney Dreamlight Valley – September 6

PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC

disney

This adventure game mixed with a life simulator features all your favorite Disney and Pixar characters. The characters live in harmony in a place called Dreamlight Valley – that is, until the Forgetting. The wonderful memories everyone had of this place were destroyed as the Nightthorns grew over the land. The Dreamlight Valley residents escaped to the Dream Castle and locked the doors.

It is up to the player to bring the magic back to the Dreamlight Valley by discovering the stories of this world and recapture those wonderful feelings. Disney Dreamlight Valley is available in Early Access for players who have an Xbox Game Pass or a Founder’s Package; the game will be free to play when the full game launches in 2023. Can’t wait to play as my favorite Disney and Pixar characters, it will be so much fun exploring and doing quests like Wall-E or Baymax!

Splatoon 3 – September 9th

Nintendo Switch

splatoon 3 1200

The third entry in the super popular Nintendo Switch series, this third-person shooter lets you play as Inklings or Octolings. Both types of characters use weapons – most resemble items you would find around the house, such as paint rollers – that shoot or scatter

colored ink around the stage. Splatoon 3 will add new and special weapons to the battle. Both the Octolings and Inklings can morph into their octopus or squid form (known as swim forms) and swim through areas of the stage covered in ink.

The fastest way to refill your ammo is to swim through the ink you find on the stage to refill your tank. This is faster than just walking through the ink in humanoid form. I can’t wait to try out all the new weapons introduced in this game, and I’m excited to see all the other weapons we’ve come to love over the course of the series return.

Return to Monkey Island — September 15

Nintendo Switch, PC

Monkey Island

Monkey Island is one of those game series that I’ve heard a lot of good things about, but never got to play myself. Return to Monkey Island continues the story of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: Lechuk’s Revenge that Guybrush had Threepwood in a fight with zombie pirate LeChuck. Since then, Guybrush has felt depressed and lost because he never found the secret of Monkey Island in his travels.

A group of young and hip new pirates led by Captain Madison have taken over Melee Island. It’s up to you to reunite with old friends as you explore familiar islands, solve clever puzzles and endure bizarre situations in an effort to save the island and give Guybrush the glory he deserves! I’ve heard the soundtracks from the previous games and I can’t wait to hear the incredible music that will be in this title. This is sure to be a fun game full of funny moments that I look forward to finally experiencing!

It looks like early September is going to be an expensive one for me as all the top titles I want to check out arrive before the middle of the month! What top games are you excited to play? Are there others who didn’t make the list? I’m sure there are a lot of games I’ve left out that come out at the end of September. Look out for the October list as I’ll be trying to track down some spooky and spooky games that are perfect for the Halloween season!
