The last of us part 1 Recently released, and as a remake of a very popular game, comparisons between the game, the original 2013 version and its 2014 counterpart are inevitable. From a consumer perspective, fans can now get their hands on it to experience if it’s worth it for themselves. While the gameplay may not have changed as much as fans had hoped, The last of us part 1 is certainly a superior effort.
Indeed, The last of us part 1‘s most explicit improvement is the visuals. This was always clear from the first announcement trailer, as well as the brief glimpses that leaked afterward and the subsequent trailers Naughty Dog released to highlight some of the changes players will notice in the remake. The last of us part 1 is generally much more impressive than the original in regards to graphical fidelity, but there are several specific areas where the remake’s visuals are most stunning.
The cinematic and emotional moments of The Last of Us are further complemented
Reworked facial animations really keep working The last of us‘ original cutscenes forward with even better performances displayed on PS5. That’s not to say the original game’s facial animations weren’t able to excel in their performances, because they were. But with regard to The last of us part 1 with an upscaled fidelity, performances are certainly a monumental takeaway from the remake. For example, Joel holding a dying Sarah or a traumatized Ellie is just as devastating as in the original game, but the performances are accentuated.
David’s sinister “Little pieces” line and Joel’s furious “I believe him” line are examples of when dialogue takes a harder knock with facial animations of characters that more closely match their actors’ performances, which is great to see in cinematic and emotional cutscenes. Subtle nuances are now visible in the performances of characters that may not have been portrayed before, and details such as flowing tears or reactionary shudders are clearly displayed. Even the main characters aside, the NPC overhaul is staggering as only a few are reminiscent of their previous character models and get completely new appearances in the remake. However, there are two other features associated with it: The last of us part 1‘s visual improvements that are even more remarkable than the character models.
The environments and workbenches of The Last of Us Part 1 make the biggest impression
It’s easy to appreciate the fidelity of the character model in cutscenes that the player can’t interact with. On the contrary, the moment-to-moment gameplay shows how phenomenal The last of us Part 1the environment is art. Exploration is born again as players enjoy traversing The last of us‘ linear levels with a current generation paint layer. This resumes the essence of The last of us in a revived state that only a current-gen remaster or remake could achieve, and it’s succinct in how incredible the game’s new lighting is.
Daylight streams through dilapidated buildings, illuminating infectious trails and particle effects are bright and clear, and rain and water effects are now wonderfully realistic. The Last of Us Part 1, therefore, has a heightened vibe because of how it can be imagined on PS5, and if it wasn’t obvious that the remake has superior visual quality in character models alone, it’s very apparent when players explore every environment around them.
Furthermore, intricate detailing can be seen on each workbench. The remake approves The last of us 2‘s workbenches and has the same magnified view of pistols, rifles, and the like as players upgrade them.
Joel then watches him create mod attachments and reassemble firearms on top of every workbench table. These details are a fantastic celebration of The last of us part 1‘s graphic fidelity, and in addition to environmental art and character models, the visual improvements of the remake are quite astounding.
The last of us part 1 is now available on PS5. A PC version is currently in development.
