The Last of Us Part 1 was released last week for the PlayStation 5.
Being a remake from the ground up for the current generation of consoles – and given Naughty Dog’s reputation for attention to detail – everyone assumed this release would be full of new improvements and fun additions along with the core gameplay.
Now these assumptions have come true, with The Last of Us Part 1 community sharing some of their recent discoveries online. Please note there will be spoilers for The Last of Us Part 1 in the article below.
First, a Twitter user noted that Naughty Dog uses objects to give players more of Joel’s backstory.
If you look around his house, you will be able to find medicines for blood pressure and stomach ulcers. In addition to these bottles, you will also find anti-anxiety medicines on Joel’s side table.

Later in the story, players see Joel and Tess presenting their passports to the military in the quarantine zone. These are actually fully fleshed out documents, showing that Joel’s birthday is September 24, 1981, making him 52 in The Last of Us Part 1.
Meanwhile, Tess’ full name turns out to be Theresa Serpopoulos.
Players have also noticed that Joel can weigh himself on a number of scales found in the game. Just so you know, he weighs about 200 pounds.
In addition to these more humorous inclusions, there are also some new details that can be very useful.
For example, mirrors in The Last of Us Part 1 can be used to see rounded corners, as shown below.
In addition to these new ‘prop’ details, some minor cinematic changes have also been made to this version of The Last of Us.
As noted by Sir_MoonDoggy, in the remake, Tess will aim her gun at Ellie once she realizes she is infected. She didn’t do this in previous versions of the game.
Meanwhile, another player has applauded the water physics, noting that bodies hitting the water after being hit have a different effect than regular footsteps.
Then, of course, there is the matter of those bodies.
A player shared a close-up of the game showing that the glass of a bottle can be seen in an enemy’s face after being hit by the projectile.
Others have taken to Reddit to praise the seamless transition between The Last of Us Part 1 cutscenes and gameplay.
Finally, for now at least, there’s the camera itself.
As noted by SixThingsIHate, “It gets smudged, wet and blood spattered on it, and it automatically adjusts itself during removes and shakes to make everything more visceral”.
Honestly I am impressed with the improvements, they are more noticeable than I thought they would be! The 3D audio and the use of DualSense are also sooooo incredible – and the way blood works…sir!!!! It’s scary and sad and I love it

Earlier this week, players began speculating that Naughty Dog may have left a clue about his new IP hidden in The Last of Us Part 1. This conversation started after several fantasy-inspired posters adorned the game’s walls, leading many to believe this was a theme for future games from the developer.
