Jackbox Party Pack 9

We had some hands-on time with The Jackbox Party Pack 9 at PAX West 2022. At the expo we met Jackbox Games to preview their next installment in their beloved franchise. Jackbox Party Pack.

Jackbox Games was not on the PAX West show floor but was instead on the second floor near the food court to show Jackbox Party Pack 9. This setup allowed those trying to enjoy their lunch to be players too.

Unfortunately, our time was limited due to other appointments, but we were able to play a round Fibbage 4. Fibbage 4 features fan-created questions chosen from a pool of submitted questions.

Fibbage has players fill in the blanks for the different questions where the answer can fit in either blank. Shockingly, none of the answers during our game were perverse or inappropriate.

Most of the choices were pretty straightforward for comedic purposes, but some of the correct answers were shocking. Since most of the answers were PG, no specific question or answer was as memorable.

According to the developers, players can vote to kick out misbehaving players. Jackbox Party Pack 9 includes a number of new features. In addition to the kick player feature, players can log in with a QR code.

In addition, a new feature called “Easy Host Reconnects” allows the game to pause for up to five minutes if the host disconnects; this allows players to finish the round. This makes short breaks less stressful in Jackbox Party Pack 9.

Other recurring features in Jackbox Party Pack 9

Jackbox Party Pack 9 will also bring back some fan favorite features to make the stream and overall gameplay easier:

  • Extended Timers or No Timers: For when you need to slow things down and give people more time to perform actions.
  • Subtitles: Don’t miss any dialogue!
  • Family Friendly Filter: Removes suggestive in-game content (but doesn’t filter out user-generated content).
  • Profanity Filtering: Prevents offensive user-generated content from entering the game. Choose between None/Medium/Strict.
  • US-focused content filter: Removes trivia or jokes that may not be understood globally.
  • Audience Play Along: Once you’ve filled your game with players, you can allow up to 10,000 spectators to join in and influence the outcome of the game!
  • Volume Control: Increase or decrease the music, SFX or host audio.
  • Require Twitch Login: Players must log into their Twitch account to participate in the game.
  • Motion Sensitivity: Adjust in-game art and animation to have more static.
  • Skip Tutorials: When You Don’t Need Instruction!
  • Rooms with password: Creates a unique password that players must enter in addition to the room code if you need an extra layer of security.
  • Hide room code: Useful when streamers want to display the game lobby but share the room code privately with players elsewhere.
  • Launch game from controller: Enable this if you want to launch the game from the device the game is running on and not from the VIP’s controller. It helps the host stay in control in case he’s not the first player to join!
  • Player Limits: Set how many players can participate in the game before you start.
  • Post-Game Sharing: Creates unique shareable content that you can post to Twitter after the game is over.

Jackbox Party Pack 9 Chicks

The Jackbox Party Pack 9 game modes:

  • Fibbage 4 (2-8 players) – The hilarious bluff party game returns with an all-new Final Fibbage, video questions, fan-submitted questions and the Fibbage Enough About You mode! It’s a game that’s so loved that we decided to put a 4 on it.
  • Quixort (1-10 players) – In this trivia sorting factory, you work with your team to sort falling answers in the right order before they fall to the floor! Or play single player mode and see how many blocks you can sort before reaching the top. It’s as easy as A, C, B!
  • Junktopia (3-8 players) – A strange wizard has turned you into a frog! Create hilarious backstories for weird objects and then have them rated. The player with the most valuable items becomes human again!
  • non-sensory(3-8 players) – Professor Nanners is here to test your NSP (non-sensory perception) in this drawing, writing and guessing game! How close can you get to guessing where another player’s prompt is on the most insane scale?
  • roomerang (4-9 players) – Channel your inner reality TV star in an effort to come out on top! Respond to prompts, bring the competition and role play to avoid being voted out. Never fear though, even if you’re gone, your Roomerang-ed will land right back in the drama!

The Jackbox Party Pack 9 will launch sometime in the fall of 2022 for Windows PC (via Steam).
