The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is widely regarded as one of the best video games ever made – and for good reason. The innovative mechanics, immersive gameplay, and pure replay value are just a few reasons why we’re still praising this masterpiece of gaming even five years later. Upon release, the Nintendo Switch was pushed to the limit of its graphics capabilities to bring us some of the most enduringly beautiful open-world environments in gaming history.
Each region brims with a distinct attention to detail, each with its own deep sense of beckoning mystery. While this game is already packed with breathtaking scenery, here are just some of the best views we could find in Hyrule, and how to find them for yourself.
8 Under the Highlands, Gerudo
Nestled on a rocky cliff, just below the contrastingly chilly Gerudo Highlands, you’ll find stunning views of the vast Gerudo Desert. This stretch of no man’s land, with shifting sands and scorching heat that will make you tear off your gear, will test the hero’s heat tolerance, endangering his health in the process.
Make sure to dress lightly or bring some drinks to keep you cool before making your way through the jagged mountains north of Gerudo Town. The nearby Gerudo Tower offers a great vantage point that makes this view easier to access, so we recommend scaling it first if you haven’t already. Once you’ve found the spot, set up a cozy campfire and rest until morning – there’s nothing like watching the sun slowly rise and shine over the looming Gerudo Desert.
7 Under the Floria Bridge, Faron
Down under the Floria Bridge of the Faron region is a series of thick tree roots where you can sit back in comfort and soak up the section’s unique tropical vibe with no shortage of majestic waterfalls to ogle. Set back from neighboring Lakeside Stable, this intimate venue overlooks a pair of small waterfalls cascading down from Lake Corta, which you can easily access thanks to the nimble Zora armor.
Due to the nature of the humid, rainy climate in this region, it can often be difficult to enjoy the natural beauty of Hyrule’s tropics as the air is typically dense with a steaming mist rolling over the land. For this reason, the area is at its best when explored around midday, when it has the least chance of rain and the sun is most likely to shine. Pay close attention when looking for these, otherwise you will accidentally go swimming in Lake Floria!
6 The base of Hateno tower, Necluda
One of the first regions you’re likely to explore, Necluda offers all sorts of interesting and remarkable sights designed to keep us involved in the disaster-stricken world of Hyrule long after we escaped from the Great Plateau.
Among the countless other beautiful sights is a small cliff at the base of Hateno Tower, where heroes can admire the vast, rolling hills and spectacular mountains of Necluda, including the sacred Mount Lanayru. Since this landmark is a quick jump and jump from the opening portion of the game and follows the natural exploration path of the main quest, players new and old alike will have no qualms about taking in one of Breath of the Wild’s best early-game landscapes. find.
5 Spring of Wisdom, Lanayru
Near the top of Mount Lanayru is the Well of Wisdom, a revered domain overflowing with a sense of peace and natural grace. The tall, elegant ice structures soar into the sky like skyscrapers, as do the great towers that surround Hyrule Castle, also protecting the rumored treasure within.
It’s a long trek to one of Breath of the Wild’s snowiest and highest mountains, so you might want to grab some spicy food and bring a warm set of clothes to withstand the bitter cold. If you manage to reach the source, you can turn around and see the surrounding mountain range, as well as most of the south side of Hyrule. Climb a little further behind the colossal crystals that hide the source and you’ll find the top of Lanayru, which gives you an impressive bird’s eye view of the land in all directions.
4 Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, Akkala
The vibrant reds, yellows and greens of the seemingly endless autumn of the Akkala region are best appreciated from one of the pretty flower beds just outside the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. An area teeming with flora and fauna, animals and rare insects constantly roam the wide, open sea of greenery at any time of the day.
While it stands out among the game’s tiniest regions, this little slice of Hyrule is rich in hidden lore and secrets, with one of Breath of the Wild’s most memorable side missions that people usually don’t know about. So if you’re heading to Robbie’s to buy some old stuff, take a good look around and enjoy the mesmerizing allure of Akkala.
3 Goron City Entrance, Eldin
A familiar sight to those who have braved the fiery journey on the path to Goron City, the entrance to the city gives the hero a chance to see Death Mountain in its full glory. The radiating heat of the massive volcano and shreds of ash and flames flutter in the sky, constantly reminding our legendary hero of the perilous temperatures he must endure to succeed in his quest.
The town itself is a real diamond in the rough, populated with the series’ most delightful residents who love nothing more than to mine ore and eat rocks for every meal. Fans who want the best possible view of the looming mountain should look for the metal plate with a white target painted on it at the entrance of the village – you can’t miss it. Don’t forget to slurp a few Fireproof Elixirs beforehand, otherwise you or your valuables could catch fire along the way.
2 North of Selmie’s place, Hebra
High in the Hebra Mountains above Rito Village is a small snowy vista that overlooks the white peaks and fields of the western corner of Hyrule. Get ready with your warmest doublet and a comfy pair of snow boots, because you’ll definitely need them if you expect to survive the heart-pounding journey ahead. Start traveling around noon so you can arrive by sunset – the golden hour is the best time to enjoy this view.
As well as two twin flagpoles just a few steps north of Selmie’s Spot, take in the picturesque Hebra snowscape and, on the way out, impress Selmie with your Shield Surfing skill as you hang down the mountain ten times for a nice rupee or two.
1 Hyrule Castle, Central Hyrule
Could there ever be a better view in all of Central Hyrule than the ubiquitous Hyrule Castle? After countless hours scouring the land with the castle always in our sight, finally being able to stand before its glorious, albeit imposing, figure is a sight unlike any other Breath of the Wild has to offer. Arrived on a blood moon? Forget it.
It goes without saying, but if you want a chance to see this legendary fortress up close, be prepared. Guards are there to zap you at every turn, so simply storming the castle gates may not be a viable strategy. However, if you’re eager enough, there’s plenty of cover in the ruins of Castle Town that allows you to sneak in largely unnoticed.
