EAST LANSING, Michigan – Michigan State women’s soccer continues Big Ten play with its second consecutive home game in league action, as the Spartans receive the Purdue Boilermakers in a kick at 1:00 PM at DeMartin Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 25.

MSU also welcomes its women’s soccer campers to campus on Sunday afternoons as the Spartans host Camper Appreciation Day. All campers wearing their 2022 camp t-shirt will get free entry to the game. Additionally, the first 100 fans to arrive at DeMartin Stadium will receive an exclusive MSU Soccer bag label.

HEAD COACH JEFF HOSLER SAID…

“Purdue has a lot of talent; it’s just a lot of young talent,” MSU hoofd head coach Jeff Hosler said. “Given the year they had last year, it’s clear they understand what a winning culture is. (Purdue head coach) Drew (Roff) does a great job building that culture. They have a group that has a lot of valuable experience, right now but they’re still capable of beating anyone. They’ve been in every game and have some good wins. It’s a very competitive, talented group coming to DeMartin on Sunday. We need to get a little bit into our approach look different and play with more edge like we had for our first two Big Ten games.”

KICKIN’ IT
The Green & White go back to work with a 6-1-3 overall record of the season with a 1-0-1 start to Big Ten play. The Spartans started with a dominating 3-0 road win against Illinois, supported by a hat-trick from senior striker Lauren DeBeau and followed that performance up with a goalless draw to Iowa at home. MSU is in the midst of a four-game undefeated streak stretching back to a 0-0 draw with Oakland on September 8. Michigan State has seen a quartet of players earn a total of five Big Ten weekly women’s soccer awards, one shy of MSU’s one-season program record. DeBeau took home the most recent Offensive Player of the Week for Green & White on September 20.

AGAINST THE BOILERS

Boilermaker head coach Drew Roff and Purdue go head-to-head with a 3-6 overall record coupled with a 0-2 start to Big Ten conference play, most recently falling to Wisconsin 5-2. In the preseason Big Ten Coaches Poll, the Boilermakers were picked to finish seventh in the league after a 15-4-3 season in 2021 with an 8-2 ledger in B1G matches. Sophomore forward Gracie Dunaway runs the Purdue offense in both scoring (10 points) and goals (4), while junior midfielder Emily Mathews facilitates the Boilermaker offense with four assists a year. Sophomore goalkeeper Sara Kile manages the net for Purdue, with 37 saves compared to 11 goals in her seven games played.

STORY OF THE SERIES: PURDUE

In one of the more competitive series in the history of the program, Michigan State has a 14-10-2 lead over Purdue entering its 27th all-time meeting on Sunday. Both teams have even played in their last five meetings, setting a 2-2-1 record in that period. In games played at DeMartin, the Spartans put together a solid 8-5 overall record, marked by a 2-0 win in the final home game on September 29, 2019. The game also served as Michigan State’s most recent victory, in which Paige Webber the leading goal scored in the 10th minute, assisted by then sophomore Camryn Evans. MSU and Purdue last faced each other in a regular season game during the COVID-maligned 2021 spring season, in which the Boilermakers took a 1-0 win at home.
