Today Skullcandy launches its latest entry into the gaming headset space with options for both wired and wireless functionality depending on your budget. Starting with the entry-level space, the SLYR Multi-Platform Wired Gaming Headset is designed to work just about anywhere. The next step up is the SLYR Pro Multi-Platform Wired Gaming Headset, which aims to be a more premium wired experience. Finally, the flagship for this new lineup is the PLYR Multi-Platform Wireless Gaming Headset with Bluetooth 5.2 technology, 24-hour battery life and support for Skull-HQ software, both on PC and mobile. Keep reading below the fold to learn more about these new Skullcandy headsets and their unique features that you won’t find in many other places.

SLYR Multi-Platform Gaming Headset

Starting with the entry-level SLYR Multi-Platform Wired Gaming Headset, the casual gamer will have Skullcandy’s Supreme Sound to maximize the gaming experience by providing “premium in-game audio depth”. For when you want to game with your friends, the SLYR headset comes with a bi-directional detachable boom microphone that ensures they hear you clearly thanks to the focused voice recording. Built-in controls let you mute the microphone or adjust the volume without pausing your playing, so you can stay focused. Skullcandy designed this headset with sturdy and lightweight materials, such as memory foam, to ensure you stay comfortable during those long gaming sessions. If you’re looking for a no-nonsense gaming headset, SLYR is the best option for you.

SLYR Pro Multi-Platform Gaming Headset

With the next step up, the SLYR Pro, you’ll find many of the same comforts as the headset above, including the similar construction and memory foam ear cups. Where it differs is in the set of features. Here you can access Skullcandy’s more advanced audio processing technology built in. This includes Enhanced Sound Perception, which uses a hearing test to tailor audio levels to your needs, and Skullcandy’s Clear Voice Smart Mic, which uses AI to eliminate unwanted background noises such as keyboard clicks. There is an onboard battery that allows these technologies to work on their own and last up to 24 hours on a single charge. The Skullcandy software available on PC and mobile gives you more customizable audio with advanced controls.

PLYR Multi-Platform Wireless Gaming Headset

Now for Skullcandy’s new flagship headset, the PLYR. This gaming headset can work both wirelessly and wired using Bluetooth 5.2 technology, so you can listen to music or games on the go and connect to your desktop at home at the same time. You can also access the same audio processing technologies here as in the SLYR Pro. A unique feature you’ll find with both the PLYR and SLYR Pro is the built-in Tile Finding technology that allows you to “call” the headsets using the Tile app if you ever lose them. Just like Apple lets you locate AirPods with Find My, Tile’s app lets you track your new gaming headset.

9to5Toys’ Take

While Skullcandy isn’t at the top of my list of places to check out for headsets, all of these new gaming headsets seem like great options for those looking for value for money. It’s pretty cool that the SLYR Pro and PLYR use onboard processing separate from your phone or computer.
