Tactical shooters have a reputation for being very difficult and intensely competitive. Small mistakes can lead to catastrophic losses. This means it’s vital to know everything about a person’s character – their weapons, their counters and the cards they will be fighting on. The more information the player has, the better he will perform.

Rainbow Six Siege already has a long list of operators, and Operation Brutal Swarm introduces players to yet another one: Grim. Filling both intelligence and territory denial roles, this attacker uses swarms of nanobot bees to reveal enemy positions and give him and his team the upper hand. Here’s everything players need to know to get started playing Grim.

The basics of Grim

Grim’s basic equipment consists of the 522 Commando Assault Rifle, SG-CQB Shotgun, P229 Handgun, Breach Charge, and Claymore. In addition, Grim is equipped with the Kawan Hive Launcher, who shoots a Hive full of nanobot bees as his unique ability. The Hive sticks to surfaces, allowing Grim to plant it on walls and ceilings as well as on the floor. Once planted, the hive opens automatically and releases the bees, who then swarm the surrounding 4x4m area. These bees cover a large space, and any enemy operator who steps in is constantly pinged on their location, which could mean death in a tactical shooter like this.

This ping takes eight seconds. It affects every operator who enters the swarm and continues to ping locations even after the operator leaves the swarm. This ping is constant, Giving Grim perfect information about the whereabouts of enemies while they are in the swarm and making him an asset in many team combos. Even after leaving the swarm, enemies will continue to ping their location until the eight-second time is up, although these follow-up pings are staggered rather than constant. The information from the Kawan Hive Launcher makes Grim great for both revealing enemy positions and driving anchors from cover, because it forces them to move or suffer the consequences of being revealed.

How do you play Grim

beehive placement is extremely important for this character. One of the first things players have to get used to when learning to play Grim is that the Hive sticks to the surface instead of bouncing. This means that the first placement is everything. Solid surfaces such as walls, doors and filing cabinets will block bees, so even if an operator would normally be within range of the Hive, they are safe from the bees as long as they are behind such a surface.

Grim’s main counter is Mute. A Hive placed within range of Mute’s Jammer will not deploy bees, and an operator teeming with bees can clear the swarm by going into a Jammer’s radius. Jäger’s ADS Will Also Destroy Hives if launched through their zone, Wamai’s Mag-Net system will force the Hive off its trajectory, although it won’t prevent bees from deploying.

The last and most difficult way to combat Grim’s Hive is by: destroy it with a Impact grenade. This can only be done after the Hive canister has been opened, but before the bees have deployed. The timing of this is extremely difficult, so dealing with Mute remains the number one concern for Grim players.

Grim can be played as Entry, Second Entry or Flex. Equipped with five Hives, it can provide information for about 40 seconds. If the player is willing to exhaust their resources, they can even spend three Hives to deplete the enemy’s ADS, while having two left for actual reconnaissance. Grim’s greatest strength is his ability to clear anchor positions and ping pesky sentries, but that’s not his only strength. Hives can also be used for crowd control. If the player is outnumbered and afraid of being pushed from multiple directions, they can drop a Hive into one entrance, allowing them to cover another zone while ensuring the enemy is incapacitated for eight seconds will be to overwhelm Grim.
