There is a lot happens in the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles lately. While nothing can ever compete with “Turtlemania” – the period during the early ’90s when the pizza-munching reptiles became a global pop culture phenomenon – it’s still a great time to have a TMNT fan.
Recently, a fan-made movie made its way to YouTube, which is based on the popular IDW five-part comic series “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin” (2020). As such, fans hope this will inspire Paramount to finally get around to being R-rated TMNT movie.

As for movies that are officially in the works, Seth Rogen’s animated reboot recently got both an official title and a release date – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (2023) will hit theaters on August 4 next year. It will be the second theatrical CG animated film in the franchise, featuring TMNT (2007) first.
And earlier this year, Paramount Pictures also confirmed a number of other TMNT movies in the works, each of which will focus on an iconic villain (no doubt Shredder, Krang, Bebop and Rocksteady). These films will go straight to Paramount+ in 2023.

There is also a live action TMNT movie in the making. It will be written by SNL writers Colin and Casey Jost and produced by Michael Bay, who has also served as a producer on the last two films in the series (although the new film is not expected to be a sequel).
The untitled project will be the sixth live-action move in the franchise, following Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016).

There are already several open worlds Spider Man titles set in the Big Apple, as well as certain listings in the Grand Theft Auto franchisee. Needless to say, taking control of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello (maybe even Splinter, Casey Jones and April O’Neil too) in an open world Manhattan would be a dream come true for fans.
Open world video games are growing in popularity, with some big titles on the way, such as Hogwarts Legacy (2023), Avatar: Borders of Pandora (2023), and an unnamed Star Wars video game (TBA). A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game in this sense is too logical to ignore.
