The following contains spoilers for Episode 10 of Overlord IV, “The Last King”, now streamed on Crunchyroll.
The war between the Sorcerer Kingdom and the Kingdom of Re-Estize has begun. Among the victims is Zanac, prince and future king of Re-Estize; However, Ainz has no time to ponder the surreality of his opponent’s demise, as much more menacing supporters have arrived: one in red armor, the other in pure white.
Albedo and Ainz are attacked by what appears to be two adventurers who have taken it upon themselves to kill the enemy’s king before too many casualties; however, the people still fail to realize anything fundamental: everything is within the calculations of Ainz Ooal Gown* (his highly competent subordinates). This episode throws some curveballs and brings out yet another display of this season’s clunky humor.
The fall of revaluation
The episode opens with the view of King Ramposa III, the de jure king of the kingdom of Re-Estize in his chambers. One of his servants arrives to tell him about the terrible developments on the battlefield; including the loss of all contact with the military and the fact that Prince Zanac has seemingly disappeared. Ramposa’s age and wisdom seem to work very quickly in the conversation, with the king reprimanding his foolish second son for dying for his father, just as the eldest, Barbro, did. The king releases everyone who works in the castle from their positions and thinks they have a good chance of escaping if they do so while it is still dark. Despite his companion’s protestations, Ramposa III has decided that he will remain in the castle as the last king of the kingdom of Re-Estize.
Elsewhere, those associated with Hilma Cygnaeus (and thus the Wizarding Realm) are being transported somewhere safe by Shalltear. Hilma has a new recruit, Cocco Doll, who has no idea of the kind of trades Hilma has made. Cocco Doll does mention the fact that Hilma and her cohort have completely changed personality since the last time they were connected. It’s going to be kind of a “baptism of fire,” unfortunately, as Shalltear has plans for Cocco Doll that are sure to be terrifying – Kyuhukou’s Room.
Who goes there?!
On the battlefield, Ainz and Albedo prepare, but something doesn’t seem right. Ainz only seems to be using four or five spells in rotation, not to mention that both he and Albedo are caught off guard by the Adamantium-level adventurer in red from last time. Ainz sends Albedo to face the threat, and they take to the skies.
The combat is very bland as the adventurer only seems to want to lead Albedo to a second location, rather than actually participating; however, it is later shown that the adventurers are not delusional about the state of affairs – they cannot win. While Albedo the red, turns out to be the leader of the Red Drop adventure faction, Azuth Aindra, and the white quickly engages Ainz in battle, using some of what appears to be sentient swords and highly skilled swordsmanship and magic. During the battle, Ainz pays attention to the different skills that the samurai warrior in white uses, but he also has to be careful in this one, as it seems Ainz is overwhelmed in combat.
Both Ainz and Albedo fought well against their aggressors; however, the strangeness felt with Ainz in the beginning of the episode is heightened when, during his fight against the white-clad warrior Riku Aganeia, Ainz finds himself unable to hold him off well enough to fight back. Ainz even finds out that whoever he’s currently fighting is only remotely controlled, as spells like Grasp Heart aren’t effective.
Despite being overwhelmed, Ainz still gives Riku a run for his money, but certain aspects of Riku’s fight with Ainz don’t make sense, especially when the wizard king fails to break through the barrier Riku has set up, but Albedo can. smashing through it by force of will to defend her master. After fending off Riku, he and Azuth escape together to reunite in the nearby woods, where they share information about their opponents. Both admit they have no chance of winning, with Riku even more certain that Azuth could never hope to injure Ainz in a fight. From the outside, Ainz didn’t seem like himself, which is later confirmed as Ainz, who watches from his throne in Nazarick, praises Pandora’s actor and Albedo for their well-done scouting work.
Players and NPCs
The odd kind of Overlord humor also made its way into the pace, but since this was just a mock fight as far as Ainz is concerned, things may improve in scope and extent in the upcoming episodes as the season draws to a close.
The best part of the episode came towards the end, during Riku and Azuth’s post-action meeting, where Aganeia is revealed as a wise dragon who has gotten wind of the evil brewing in Yggdrassil due to a certain kind of entity known to him. as a “Puh-Layer”. This conversation shows that there are certain factions in Yggdrassil that have come to understand players’ existence as a threat, but they don’t have all the information they need yet.
great actor
While the acting skills of Pandora’s Actor and Albedo are to be commended in this episode, it wasn’t always a seamless performance. Sometimes Albedo would forget “Ainz” and speak very casually, almost disrespectfully, but she would soon remember that an act must be enforced, not to mention that “Ainz” spoke of his intention to take his part. fulfill. Now that Ainz has been given the chance to measure the enemy’s strength (and the enemy now has a misunderstanding of his own strength), Ainz can really start planning his way forward after the war and set his sights on getting Riku Aganeia submit to him and become one of his subordinates. The episode was interesting, but also left an odd thrill as the previous episode’s high stakes and the way the previous episode was generally darker makes the pace and development of this one pale in comparison.
