With only 2 out of 7 chapters released so far, Deltarune is fast becoming one of the most beloved indie RPGs of all time. Some of the reasons for its popularity are the quirky and intricate activities that players can perform in the game. One such activity is the recruitment of the Darkners to live in Castle Town. This recruiting system was added to the game with the release of Chapter 2.
Lots of things in Castle Town change depending on which of the possible recruits have been obtained. For example, if you get at least 9 recruits, Seam will replace their Dark Candies in their shop with CD Bagels, a much stronger healing item. Additionally, several recruited Darkners appear in Castle Town and can be spoken to, complete with unique dialogue.
They also appear in Café as additional placement options. There are more benefits to recruiting certain characters. However, some battles can get tedious and tedious if the player doesn’t know how to finish them the fastest. So with that, here are the fastest ways to get the Deltarune Chapter 2 Dark.
weather wire
Werewire has the unique property of having a permanent “Moe” status, make sleep spells very effective. Defending Kris or Susie before Ralsei’s turn is the most efficient way to get TP to pay off his Pacify spell. This tactic also works with Noelle, but both she and Kris must defend in order to pay for her Sleep Mist spell. It will spare any weary enemy in battle, so the speed of the saving process will be more even.
A total of 6 Werewires must be saved to officially recruit them. Fortunately, unlike some other enemies, they are easy to find. You can encounter them in Cyber Field, Cyber City and Queen’s Mansion (Acid Tunnel). If this requirement isn’t met before Giga Queen, the easiest Werewire to come across is 1 room east of the Music Shop in Cyber Field, which is just 1 room north of Cyber Field’s Warp Door.
Tasque
Tasques are very easy to recruit. Using Ralsei’s “SoftVoice” ACT found in Kris’ ACT menu, a single time will bring all Tasques to 100% Mercy. At that point, just use the reserve command to end the fight.
A total of 5 Tasques must be saved in order to be officially recruited. They can be found in Cyber Field, Cyber City (weird route only), and Queen’s Mansion. If this requirement is not met before Giga Queen, the easiest Tasque to encounter is 1 room east and 1 room south of Cyber Field’s Warp Door.
Virovirokun
Virovirokuns are very similar to Tasques, like using “TakeCareX” brings them all in a fight to 100% Mercy, and then they just need to have the spare command used on them. This works with the full trio as well as with just Kris and Noelle.
A total of 4 Virovirokuns must be saved to officially recruit them. They can be found in Cyber Field and Cyber City. If this requirement has not yet been met for Giga Queen, the easiest Virovirokun to encounter is at the end of a narrow room east of Cyber Field’s Warp Door.
pop up
Poppup is by far the easiest recruit to get. On the very first we encountered in Cyber City, right before Noelle joined, use the “Click” ACT twice on them. This brings them to 100% Mercy and saves them all 3 in the same turn, and 3 happens to be the number needed to get the recruit. After that, no other Poppups need to be fought.
If the opportunity to do so is missed, there is a Poppup a room east of the Trash Zone Warp Door.
Ambiu-Lance
Noelle’s “Hospitality” ACT in Kris’ menu will instantly save all Ambyu-Lances in battle. However, there aren’t many chances of using this with how little she’s at the party, so using the “GetHit” ACT on Kris’s menu with the full trio and immediately encountering one of the Ambyu-Lance’s bullets is the best way to save these.
A total of 4 Ambyu-Lances must be saved to officially recruit them. You can only encounter them in Cyber City. If this requirement is not met before Giga Queen, the easiest Ambyu-Lance to discover is 5 rooms east and 2 rooms south of the Trash Zone Warp Door.
Maus
Kris’ “TrapOne” and “TrapAll” ACTs are most useful for single and multiple Maus, respectively. If timed right, any enemy caught in the red cage will get 100% mercy. “TrapAll” even works on enemies that aren’t Maus, meaning it can bring all enemies in combat up to 100% Mercy in one turn if they’re all captured.
3 Maus must be spared to officially recruit them. You can only encounter them in Cyber City. If this requirement is not met before Giga Queen, the easiest Maus to encounter is 1 room east of the Trash Zone Warp Door, joining the Poppup visible in the Overworld when the battle begins.
Swatch
Swatchlings are the most complicated enemy to spare. When the fight starts, they all have a random color. The colors can be manipulated using the “Warmify”, “Coldify”, “Half-Warm”, and “Half-Cold” ACTs. “Warmify” and “Coldify” adjust their colors in 2 phases, while “Half-Warm” and “Half-Cold” only do 1 phase.
The coldest phase is blue and the warmest phase is red, with green, yellow and orange in between. These ACTs must be used carefully to ensure that all Swatchlings are the same color, which brings them all to 100% Mercy. A blue Swatchling can’t get any colder and a red Swatchling can’t get hotter, so don’t use their respective ACTs on them, as that will waste the group member’s turn. The vast majority of the color combinations the game offers players can be matched in just 1 turn, although some may require 2.
A total of 5 Swatchlings must be saved to be officially recruited. They can only be found in Queen’s Mansion. If this requirement isn’t met before Giga Queen, the easiest Swatchling to encounter will be in Tasque Manager’s room after she’s been battled. A good thing to know is that breaking pottery in Queen’s Mansion whenever possible yields extra Swatchling encounters that can normally be skipped.
Tasque Manager
When answering Tasque Manager’s questions, say “Left, Down, Left” in that order. This gives her 100% Grace on the first turn, where she can be recruited instantly. 2 Tasques also join her in battle if their 5 spares requirement has not yet been met, though they must be saved separately in order to count.
mouse wheel
An extremely well timed “CatchX” can get Mauswheel as much as 50-60% Mercy in 1 turn, meaning only 2 turns are needed to end the fight. Don’t bother with Susie and Ralsei’s “S-Action” and “R-Action”. They only give 5% Grace each. These are useful when Mauswheel only needs 5-10% Grace to reach 100% and no other situations.
weather wire
Weather wire can be a somewhat challenging enemy, so it’s good to know how to save it quickly. Using “BeSweet” and “S-Action” on the first turn, “BeTough” and “R-Action” on the second turn, and “BeCold” followed by the reserve command on the third turn will make it reasonable to 100 % quickly, so it all comes down to surviving the attacks long enough to pull this off. Make sure to compete with full HP for everyone.
Delta Rune Chapters 1 and 2 are available on PC, PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
