Warning: Spoilers abound!

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

10 Darth Revan – Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

There is no one in fiction as bad as a Sith Lord and Darth Revan is no exception. After leaving the Jedi to participate in the Mandalorian Wars, Revan and his apprentice Darth Malak invade the Republic, where Malak turns on Revan and shoots his ship into space. Even with Darth Malak as Knights Of The Old Republic’s main villain, Revan’s presence is palpable throughout the story.

What makes this especially interesting is that the main character you created is Revan, but with his memory wiped. And since the game has a morality system that focuses on the light side and the dark side, you get to decide how friendly or mean Darth Revan really is. It’s a great reveal and a great way to show that one’s past doesn’t determine their future.

9 mr. L – Super Paper Mario

The mysterious Mr. L, also known as The Green Thunder, from Super Paper Mario is one of the best characters in the game. He is a fierce warrior, built a robot after his own head, and no one knows his real identity.

Okay, that’s not true. It’s clearly Luigi. He was brainwashed into being evil by Nastasia and only returned to Luigi after being destroyed by Dimentio. He helps Mario and friends once they rescue him from the Underwhere and becomes a true friend, just like Luigi has always been.

8 Aipom – Pokemon Legends: Arceus

Pokemon Legends: Arceus changed everything we knew about catching Pokemon. Instead of wandering in a grassy field and having Pokemon fight each other, these monsters now roam free and can attack you directly. This is what makes any Pokemon so intimidating. Well, every Pokemon except Aipom.

Instead of attacking the player, Aipom will run straight ahead and just be right in front with that big grin on his face. Even if you try to catch it, Aipom will not attack you. It’s just a cheeky little monkey. While most Pokemon may attack you and others may run away, Aipom is a welcoming beacon of positivity.

7 Victor Fries (Mr. Freeze) – Batman Arkham City/Knight

Of all of Batman’s rogue galleries, Mr. Freeze the most lovable villain easily. While most bad guys might be looking for money, power or just pure chaos, Victor Fries just wants to find a cure for his terminally ill wife, Nora, who is kept frozen in a cryogenic chamber. Of course, his methods may be questionable, but the motivation behind it is pure.

In Arkham City and Arkham Knight, Fries fights against the dark knight, but also helps him. He doesn’t attack Batman until The Joker kidnaps Nora and he feels he has no choice. Things get even more heartbreaking in Arkham Knight when Nora is released from her frozen status and the two decide to sail into the sunset and die together.

6 The Fixer – Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart

The Fixer from Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is a giant robot that only wants to fix broken things. However, after defending his planet from marauding ships, he is overwhelmed by the destruction and declares that nothing can be solved. Instead, he tries to destroy every broken thing to essentially put them out of their misery.

Although The Fixer is destructive, he only wants to help things that are broken. Ultimately, Clank can reason with The Fixer that just because something is broken, it’s valuable, even if it can’t be repaired. Seeing that all is not lost, the Fixer returns to his recovery methods, hoping to do his best.

5 White Mushroom – Kingdom Hearts

The heartless from Kingdom Hearts are terrifying shadowy creatures who want to steal people’s hearts. While this concept is terrifying, quite a few of them are quite cute and downright friendly. And the nicest of all has to be the White Mushroom.

The White Mushroom does not attack Sora and friends. Instead, it just wants to play a game of charades. It will cast something and all you have to do is cast the spell associated with it. Do this often enough and you’ll be rewarded with some rare items. Looks like the White Mushroom is just a really nice guy!

Sorry, I had to.

4 Wheatley – Portal 2

GLaDOS is one of the biggest villains in all video games. She’s smart, menacing, deadly and really hates you. This is the opposite of Wheatley, another core at Aperture that was programmed to fill GLaDOS with terrible ideas. That’s why it’s so surprising when he becomes the main antagonist for Portal 2.

Initially, Wheatley wants to stop GLaDOS’s reign of terror and help you escape. He can often screw up, but his heart is in the right place. However, it gets corrupted by the amount of power and wants to run tests on you like its predecessor. But at the end, after being sent to the vacuum of space, all he wants to do is apologize. Wheatley may be a computer core, but overall he’s a good egg too.

3 Axel – Kingdom Hearts 2

Kingdom Hearts 2 left players with many questions, especially if they hadn’t played Chain of Memories. Where were Sora, Donald and Goofy? Who is Roxas? And why does Axel keep attacking him? Well, to answer the last question, people just had to play the game.

Roxas and Axel are Nobody and members of Organization XIII. When Roxas left and his memory was replaced with a new one, his best friend Axel wanted nothing more than to get him back because they were best friends. He believed that the best way to do this was to fight and eventually defeat him. While this may seem like a questionable tactic, it proves to work in the long run when both Axel and Roxas eventually find their true selves.

2 Waddle Dee – Kirby

It seems that every popular game series has iconic enemies in common. Mario has Goombas, Dragon Quest has Slimes and Kirby has Waddle Dees. And Waddle Dees have to be the sweetest and cutest enemies ever made.

Planet Popstar’s native species, Waddle Dee, simply exists. They wander around carelessly and when they actually attack Kirby it is by tripping into him. Plus, they spend just as much time helping Kirby as they do hurting him. Just look at Kirby And The Forgotten Land! Despite their allegiance to King Dedede, Waddle Dees are just adorable creatures who live their lives.

1 Cerberus – Hades

While I’m sure every dog you fight in a video game is a good boy or girl, Cerberus from Hades is the best boy of them all. He sleeps next to Hades and you can go upstairs to pet him if you want. Zagreus grew up with him, so Cerberus won’t attack you. That’s why it’s so surprising to see him at the exit of Hades when you get there.

But even then Cerberus refuses to attack you. Instead, you just have to find his favorite snack to pass him by. Cerberus may not be an enemy in the traditional sense, but he is a creature that blocks your path and it is only because of his love that Cerberus keeps you alive. And not killing you might be the nicest thing of all.
