winter in Forza Horizon 5 could be thought of as the dry season, but the new events and challenges on offer in the latest Festival Playlist Weekly Challenges are anything but. With Series 12 – Winter in the house, it’s time to look at the latest cars, the best tunes and the easiest setups that will send you to victory.
As you might suspect, Winter of Series 12 follows very much the standard: season championships, PR stunts, the trial, a photo challenge and more await you. And yes, there is no trace of that stupid Eventlab this week.
Part 1: #Forzathon Weekly Challenge – Total Eclipse
Looking at the chapter names in this week’s Weekly Challenge brought a wry smile to my face, because they’re all lines from that beautiful piece of filmmaking, The Fast and The Furious, one of Vin Diesel’s best hours.
Fortunately, this week the subject of the challenge returns, which is a championship prize, so if you want a Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX for free (because this is the subject) then complete the “Street Endurance” championship first. Otherwise, if you don’t have one in the garage, it will cost you a reasonable 25,000 Auto Show credits.
Chapter 1 – Tuna, no crust
Pause only to paint it bright green, take off in your Mitsubishi and complete step one.
Chapter 2 – Buster
Now for the big leagues we need to earn 3 Lucky Escape skills by drifting in traffic. An AWD car, drifting? What could go wrong? Stock finishing should be fine for this, so save your pennies. But stock finishing is boring, so I modified it a bit to create this part code: 715256536. Go crazy!
Chapter 3 – Winning is Winning
Now we just have to win a drag race, like in the movies. Hopefully the car will cross the line in better condition.
Chapter 4 – Warning!!! Manifold hazard
Finally, we just need to get 100,000 skill scores with our car.
Hit the roundabouts, shred the tires and we’ll be there in a minute. And with the sound of tortured rubber, our mission is complete.
Part 2 – Weekly Challenges
Luckily for the integrity of my joypad, there’s no Eventlab nonsense this week, just a whole lot of racing goodness, with four championships to look forward to. Shall we see what’s on offer?
The Trial – Street Safari
This is going to be an interesting match.
The challenge this week is, as usual, get some random drivers off the internet and then try to beat the unbeatable driver bots in a van (insert Sabine Schmidt quote here, God rest ‘er) limited to C- class 600.
Well, there’s only one van for the job for a dude who grew up in the ’80s, the GMC Vandura, or the A-Team bus as it should be called. The part code is: 734285428. It’s not the fastest van out there, but it drives pretty well.
If you win, you’ll get a really nice Mosler MT900S, a bit of a step up from an unfolded van.

Seasonal Playground Games – Survival
We have to play a game to win a car, which seems like a fair trade to me, take a Super Saloon, up to A-class 800, and then play survival, basically by social distancing from enemy cars!
I chose an Audi RS6 Avant; famously not a sedan, but we’ll cover that up. The sharing code is: 736888629.
Win or lose, we get a Mercedes Unimog for our effort.

Danger sign – Colina
For this PR stunt, hop into an S2 Class 998 car of any flavor and glide effortlessly through the air over 518 meters. Strangely specific, but there we go.
I went with a 2019 Porsche Carrera S, tuned a bit to give this part code: 115257476. I hit the ramp at just over 230 mph and flew 542 meters but needed a good long run from the left.
A super Wheelspin will be yours to fly.
Speed Control – Los Arboles
We need to hit this trap at 170 mph to win this challenge, again in an S2 Class 998 car with no restrictions. So, obviously I went with the same Porsche as the jump challenge, and the approaching descent reached 188 mph with no problem.
Another Super Wheelspin? Don’t mind if I do.
Season Championship – Street Endurance
Modern sports cars up to A Class 800 are needed here, and the Endurance part of the name comes from the fact that this is a sequence of five events, rather than the usual three.
I went for something fast and lightweight, and the Toyota GR Supra was my weapon of choice. The part code for mine is: 984217186. And yes, the stupid body kit is absolutely necessary!
Winning this championship will give you a shiny Mitsubishi Eclipse so you can be Fast and Furious to your heart’s content.
Season Championship – Retro Street
Retro Hot Hatches up to a maximum of C-class 600? Sign me up!
I remember Hot Hatches being nearly uninsurable because of joyriders, so an excuse to go back to my childhood is always welcome. From the choice offered, I chose a classic 2004 Honda Civic Type R, mainly because it is already at the right level for the event with no further work done, and I couldn’t use an Escort RS Turbo as I’m not from Essex.
Winning will give you a more modern take on the Hot Hatch recipe, a Renault Megane R26.R.
Season Championship – The Marathon
Staying with last week’s theme of “A Huge Race” and for Series 12 Winter we’re taking on the Marathon – as Snickers used to be called when the world was young!
Anyway, we need a modern supercar tuned for S1 Class 900, so I went with a car that I would buy in real life if I won the lottery, the Nissan R35 GT-R. My tune is: 972597860. It’s a long race, but luckily only one lap.
If we win, we get an Audi TT RS. Think I’ll stick with the GT-R, thanks.
Season Championship – On the Road
trucks. They are big and not that fast unless they are race trucks, in which case they are big and scary!
We need a truck for this race, and as always there is only one choice, the Mercedes Benz Tankpool race car, but oddly enough not the Forza Edition version. The part code for mine is: 625047114 and this thing is five feet; power shifting something of this magnitude should be illegal.
An HSV Maloo is your prize for winning.
Part 3 – Other Challenges
A picture to take and a treasure to find, what more could you want? A Horizon Open promotion? Well, so do we.
Photo Challenge – #STREETSCENE
Feel like whipping out the camera and lighting up your Insta? That’s what the kids say, right?
Well, in this case, take your shiny new Megane R26.R that you just won (you’re doing this in order, right?) I’ll include my photo and the location below for you.
I’ve always wanted a pair of watermelon ankle socks, and now my life is complete.

Treasure Hunt – Super Street
“Open the hatch and turn up the heat to get to the top of the podium in these superstreets,” reads the clue this week, and it doesn’t take Sherlock Holmes to figure out we have to win a street race in a Hot Hatch.
Now the car choice here seems a bit odd as I won the first one in a Vauxhall Corsa VXR, but it didn’t quite finish the challenge. However, using a 2021 Golf R unlocked it, and so everything was gold.
I’ll show you where the treasure chest appears in the pictures below. It contains 100 FP which is nice.

Horizon Open – Critical Success
This is one for me as we have to score five ultimate drifting skills in Horizon Open drifting. I personally used the custom setting to select S1 Class and then used my favorite Toyota Supra from Formula Drift to score this easily.
This gives us the Forzalink phrase “It’s Morbin Time”. Probably a cool phrase I’m not familiar with..
Part 4 – Hot Wheels Events
Series 12 – Winter takes us to Hot Wheels Park with more events.
Speed Zone – Frozen Rush
We have to complete this speed zone with an average speed of 170 mph, so there’s only one thing to do: the Koenigsegg Agera that I always recommend. Use Share Code: 109282883 and have it ripped.
Avoid the edges (interesting on ice to say the least!) and Bob should be a close relative of your choice.
How about a Super Wheelspin for trouble?
Season Championship – Paint the Streets Orange
Last but not least, there is another racing championship, this time in S2 Class 998 Hypercars. And luckily the Agera is also eligible for this event, so stick with it would be my advice.
If you win, you get a 2014 Golf, which seems like a bit of a step down.
You can participate in the two Monthly Rivals challenges that still exist unless you’ve done them before. They only require that you drive – carefully and cleanly – around the Bola Ocho Circuit and the Forza EV Emerald Circuit.
Once everything is complete, you can grab your Series 12 – Winter rewards. This week the Lynk & Co 03+ is available as soon as you reach 20 points and the Donkervoort GTO rolls out of the garage with 40 points. You should also be able to grab one of the full month cars, with the Audi RS e-tron rear 80pts and the McLaren 765LT available for 160pts.
If you don’t already own a copy of Forza Horizon 5, it’s playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or PC via the Xbox Store. It’s also on Game Pass, while the Hot Wheels expansion costs real money.
