Defense tips: how to concede fewer goals
if you want to know how to win more matches in FIFA 23, a good place to start is scoring fewer goals. It goes without saying that defending is the foundation on which your results are built: if you don’t concede goals, a draw is the worst result you can get. In this section of our FIFA 23 Guidewe’re going to share something defense tips hopefully that will help you show it how to concede fewer goals:
- A good place to start is to defending with midfielders when possible. When using a formation with CDMs, select them with the L1 button or right analog stick and use them to challenge attackers, block passing lanes and follow runners. The reason for doing this is because it will prevent you from getting out of shape with your central defenders, allowing the AI to maintain a robust line of defense. In most cases, this means that even if your CDM is defeated, your central defenders will still be available to clear any threat.
- In most cases you are no standing or sliding equipment required. The best way to defend is to stay on your feet and chase your opponent wide with the L2 button. Positioning your body correctly will put the ball away, but by not committing, you can also block passing lanes and lead attackers away from the goal. Don’t overdo it, because you’ll be beaten: play it cool, maintain good defensive form and don’t let your opponent knock you out of position. Try not to be too aggressive as you will get picked so focus on giving your opponent a hard time until they make a mistake.
- If you can’t stop the attacker from continuing on the goal, then the best thing you can do is minimize the risk of them scoring. If you know which players your opponent is using, try to force them on their weaker foot, or at least lead them wide. Limit your opponent to shots with a low probability, such as attempts outside the box or with difficult angles. While you will inevitably concede a lot of goals over time, lowering the odds against you will at least put you in the best possible position to win.
Attack tips: score more goals
If you want to know of course how to win more matches then you should know how to score more goals. The cruel reality is that even if your defense is impenetrable, you’re not going to win games if you can’t score a goal. So, for the next phase of our FIFA 23 Guidewe’re going to share something attack tipswhich will hopefully help you show how to score more goals:
- You can’t score if you don’t have possession of the ball, so regardless of your tactics and approach, our first recommendation is to make sure you recycle the ball when you have no clear advantage. The best way to score is to pull your opponent out of position, but if you’re up against a good player, chances are he won’t bite. You have to keep moving and working on the ball until an opportunity presents itself. But it is important to remember that as long as the ball is in your possession, your opponent cannot score. This keeps you in the forefront and inevitably leads to mistakes, which is your best chance to strike.
- While you don’t have to become a total dribbling trader, it may be a good idea to: learn some skill moves. Maneuvers like the fake shot – performed by pressing the shoot button followed by the pass button – can help you beat opponents and gain a few meters of space. This can be especially effective when playing one-on-one against a rushing goalkeeper, as you can let him sit and shoot into an empty net. This greatly increases your chances of scoring, which is of course the outcome you want.
- Don’t be afraid to change the game and work the ball wide. Crossing is quite effective in FIFA 23, and something you want to take advantage of, rather than just working the ball through the middle. If your formation allows it, make sure your wide players get into the penalty area in crossing situations so that you have options to utilize at both the near and far posts.
- The air game is much more powerful this year, meaning: lofted by balls can be deadly on offense. Hold down the L1 button and press the triangle to lift the ball into space. You’ll want to put a little extra bite on the pass so that you place it in the area in front of your striker to run on, rather than play it on the feet.
General Tips: How To Keep Your Head
FIFA 23 is a highly competitive game that is brilliantly entertaining both win and defeat, but due to the nature of the game you will have moments where you need to know how to keep your head. As part of our FIFA 23 Guidelet’s share some more general tips, which we hope will help you keep your cool and show you off how to keep your head:
- Perhaps the hardest but most important thing to accept is that, frankly, there are other players better than you. This doesn’t mean you should throw in the towel and call it a day: instead, accept that you can improve the game and try to learn from what your opponents are doing. You don’t have to be the number one player in the world to play FIFA 23, so take an optimistic attitude and do your best. If you get hit, you get hit. But ask yourself: why were you beaten? What did your opponent do differently? And what can you change to give yourself a better chance of winning next time?
- While you will sometimes come across better players in FIFA 23, there will also be occasions when you think you should have won. We’ve all experienced it: a goalkeeper error, a penalty that should never have been awarded, or a deflection that trickles into the goal. It happens. If you feel your blood pressure rise, then what? it’s time to take a break. Remember that you are supposed to play the game to relax and have fun. If your mood is bad, you will inevitably make more mistakes, which will only increase your anger. So if you can’t keep calm, it’s time to turn the game off altogether.
