Throughout 2022, Sony has gradually drawn the curtain on its plans for Playstation VR 2. At most of the publisher’s public events this year, it has subsequently become common for details to be shared about the platform. September’s State of Play presentation was no exception. Between trailers in front God of War Ragnarok and Tekken 8it was confirmed that multiple games can be played through the second-generation headset.
Sony may not have confirmed the all-important PlayStation VR 2 price and release date just yet, but it already gives players a good idea of what they can play on it. As more studios finally get their hands on development kits, things only get clearer from here on out. With more details likely to be shared in the coming months, now is the perfect time to take a look at the games that have already been confirmed.
alvo
Players with access to the original PlayStation VR headset may have already heard of it alvo, due to the fact that it was initially launched on the platform in early 2021. However, indie studio Mardonpol has since confirmed that it plans to port its fast-paced shooter to PS VR 2 as well. With various competitive modes, maps and a Duty-inspired Zombies mode, it’s easy to imagine that it will find even more fans in the future.
Among us VR
After taking the internet by storm in recent years, it has been confirmed that a version of Among us coming to Sony’s PlayStation VR 2. This time brought to life by Schell Games, Among us VR promises to recreate the charm and chaos of the original social devotion game, within the realm of virtual reality. Based on the footage revealed so far, it’s easy to imagine the adaptation’s new first-person perspective being well-received by fans.

Developed by Resolution Games, demo was confirmed for release in 2023 on PlayStation VR 2 during Sony’s State of Play presentation in September. stylized as Dungeons and Dragons inspired co-op adventure game, players are promised that they can recreate all the magic of a table experience in a virtual reality environment. Support for haptic feedback that makes each piece feel unique has also been confirmed by the studio, which should help the immersion even more.
Firewall Ultra
Based on the positive reception First Contact Entertainment received for Firewall: Zero Hourit’s not too shocking that the studio has already confirmed its plans to continue the series on PS VR 2. The sequel to the first-person shooter, which is dubbed Firewall Ultra, will again ask players to complete contracts and missions within a co-op setup. An eclectic arsenal of weapons has also been reconfirmed, of course. However, thanks to the platform’s haptic feedback and eye-tracking technology, each of them should feel better than ever to use.
Firmament
Although it was announced back in 2018, a few recent signs suggest that Cyan Worlds’ Firmament is almost ready for the public. Now the studio behind the iconic myst series has moved its next project to the PS5, there seems to be a positive fortune revival from a development perspective. In addition to a traditional release on Sony’s latest console and PC, the story adventure game has also been confirmed to be coming to PS VR 2 at a later date.
Ghostbusters VR
When the first-generation PS VR headset launched in 2016, PlayStation wasn’t the only arm of Sony to spring into action. Several apps and experiences were also curated and released by Sony Pictures. With PS VR 2 set to be a major technological leap forward, it’s no surprise that a similar pattern has already emerged this time around.
At the franchise’s annual celebrations earlier this year, Sony Pictures confirmed that its virtual reality developers are creating Ghostbusters VR game for PS VR 2. Unlike some of its previous efforts, it sounds like the game will also be a substantial experience. In San Francisco, four players can team up in what has been advertised as an expansive campaign.
Horizon Call of the Mountain
Given Guerrilla Games’ positive reception Horizon series since its debut in 2017, it’s no surprise that Sony has even bigger plans for its future. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that, as part of the publisher’s initiative, the series will make its way to PlayStation VR 2 via Horizon Call of the Mountain. Developed by Firesprite in collaboration with Guerrilla, it’s fair to say that the spin-off game seems to be one of the most enticing platforms out there.
Based on what has been revealed to the public so far, it looks like most of the franchise’s signature features will be adapted in virtual reality. Visceral combat, robotic machines, and sci-fi intrigue have all been worked into the trailers Sony has shared. Even though Aloy has been confirmed to appear, the story of Call of the Mountain will explore another corner of the universe. A move that will undoubtedly add more depth to the Nora Hunter’s next main adventure.

Indie studio Iris VR Inc made headlines during the early months of 2021 when it became one of the first development teams to confirm that it was making a game for Sony’s PlayStation VR 2. In a Tweet tagged with the headset’s name, it was revealed that the upcoming cyberpunk thriller low fi debuts on the platform. Taking clear inspiration from franchises such as Blade Runnerit goes without saying that the open world title will be on the radar of many sci-fi fans.
No Man’s Sky
Even No Man’s Sky Playable on Sony’s first VR headset for over three years, the game’s presence on PS VR 2 wasn’t always a given. Thanks to the upgrades and controllers of the second-generation headset, there’s a decent chance that backwards compatibility won’t be an automatic or simple process. Instead, developers will probably have to take the time to port their games to the new platform.
The fact that Hello Games has confirmed that it plans to do that is positive news, then. When No Man’s Sky launching at an unknown date on PS VR 2, the port will also take full advantage of Sony’s new technology. In addition to improved resolutions and graphics fidelity, the studio has also promised immersive Sense controller support.
Resident Evil 4
Based on Capcom’s success at launch Resident Evil 7 as a PS VR game it would always pursue the concept further. After porting several installments of the horror franchise to virtual reality platforms on PC since 2017, the publisher is now refocusing on Sony’s VR offerings.
While details are scarce at the moment, fans can look forward to the Resident Evil 4 remake with some form of PS VR 2-compatible content. What that means exactly, however, is currently a mystery. While Capcom ported the iconic game in its entirety to Oculus Quest 2 last year, it can be inferred from the publisher’s wording that only part of the experience will make its way to PlayStation.
Resident Evil Village
Though it remains to be seen how Capcom will handle it Resident Evil 4Coming to PS VR 2, other parts of the franchise’s plans have been fleshed out in more detail. In addition to the aforementioned remake, the publisher also plans to port Resident Evil Village to Sony’s platform in the future. This time around, however, there’s no doubting how far the gate will go, as Capcom has confirmed that the game’s full single-player story will be playable on PS VR 2.

Despite the fact that Sony has taken the time to answer all fan questions about PlayStation VR 2, that hasn’t stopped several indie studios from staying ahead of the publisher with announcements. For example, Truant Pixel has confirmed that: runner will make its way to the new platform at some point in the future. Inspired by beloved franchises such as Akira and Ghost in the shellIt’s already easy to imagine that the action-packed racing game is on players’ radar.
Samurai Slaughterhouse
Styled as a hack and slash adventure game with RPG mechanics, Samurai Slaughterhouse has been confirmed for release on PlayStation VR 2. Tab Games, the indie studio behind the title, has revealed that players will be able to engage in visceral, physics-based combat while taking on an eclectic mix of enemies. Thanks to a post on Reddit it looks like Samurai Slaughterhouse is currently pursuing a launch title for the headset.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge Enhanced Edition
At its September State of Play presentation, Sony confirmed that an updated version of Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge will make its way to PlayStation VR 2 sometime in 2023. Like the attractions at Disneyland California and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the VR game pushes players into episodic scenes set in the universe of the legendary sci-fi franchise. Considering how the game’s original incarnation received positive reviews when it debuted on Oculus Quest in 2020, it’s easy to imagine the Improved Edition and the improvements are also well received.
The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners – Chapter 2: Retaliation
Thanks to the successful launch of The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners on the original PlayStation VR, it should come as no surprise to fans that Skydance Interactive has more plans for the series. Advertised as a bigger and more comprehensive experience, Chapter 2: Retaliation has been confirmed for both generations of Sony’s virtual reality technology.
But as it stands now, Chapter 2: Retaliation is only slated to launch the original PS VR during the final months of 2022. Skydance Interactive has promised the sequel to PS VR2 with larger levels and new control schedules at a later date. Whether an upgrade path will be available, however, remains to be seen.
