Paths of Zero is not an RPG that headlines its affection system. This game cannot be confused with Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age: Inquisition or any number of love fueled indie gems. But there is a system, and it is doing impact – right near the end of the game, when a special (and rather moving) scene takes place between Lloyd and whoever he has scored enough hidden points with most impressed organically.
The scenes are less overtly romantic (for a blessing, given Tio’s age…) and more about good friends who went through it together. If you want to unlock a particular scene, follow our guide.
Bonding Events
The largest source of connection points in Trails from Zero comes from: three bonding events spread across the story. These take place during the prologue, chapter three and the intermission. In any case, you’ll need to pick a single character from Elie, Tio, and Randy to accompany Lloyd for a short portion of the game.
To get a character’s final bonding scene, you need to score 65 or more bonding points between the start of the game and the event at International Crossbell Bank in the final chapter. Each of the bonding events will earn you 15 points all alone, that is, when there is someone who is you For real above the others, you can get more than two-thirds of their required points this way.
That can of course lead to three slightly less interesting sequences – you only get one party member’s perspective on Crossbell and the events in it. We recommend taking your favorite final scene partner for two of the three events, capturing 30 or nearly half of the requirement. Trade them in for someone else once so the game doesn’t feel a little stale. Of course, this is just our personal perspective; maybe you feel different!
The affection point system is: invisible. You can’t measure how many points you’ve accumulated with each character at any point, so keep track of it through our guide instead.
One character boost events
Elie and Randy each have a an instance in the story where doing a certain thing will cause a significant boost in their affection points. Tio has two, although they all come out at 15. Here’s the ticket for them all.
Tios occurs earliest. On the first day of Chapter One, in fact. You will eventually be tasked with attending St. Ursula Medical College. This is a long day for our neighborhood-friendly Special Support Section, mind you, so you’re a few real hours in the day before it happens.
Once the team’s investigation into evidence of an attack is completed and a scene occurs at the Nursing Center on the second floor, walk past the receptionist (the one Randy flirted with) and exit through the back. Find Martha to gain more insight into her relationship with Tio. Net this optional cutscene 10 points for Tio.
As for Tio’s second, which adds five points to the ten from the first instance, simply clear the support request ‘Orbal staff improvement’ during chapter four.
Elie‘s is interesting. It happens at the end of chapter two, but in the background rather than through an actual scene. It is based on the number of sidequests you have completed throughout the chapter, with zero to one clearing no points, two to four clearing five points, five to six clearing ten points and seven to eight clearing 15 points.
Trails from Zero’s Japan-only Sony PlayStation Vita port featured two additional sidequests. As far as we can ascertain, these are not present in the Switch version of the game. Since the switch and PC ports have so much in common, it’s pretty safe to assume the same goes for pc. As regards PS4we are unfortunately unsure at the moment – feel free to let us know!
As regards Randy, his solo boost is arguably the most amusing yet. On the second day of Chapter Three, pranks ensue, leading to a competitive race through the Downtown District. you will earn five points each, totaling a possible 15 for choosing the following dialogue options during the race:
| Question number: | Correct response |
|---|---|
| First | Select the option to break through |
| Second | Use the combination craft |
| Third | Choose to fight separately instead of together |
Room decorations and Enigma covers
last, room decorations and Enigma covers earn enough scattered points to unlock your chosen character’s final scene. We’ve included a link above to the location of each room decoration. As for Enigma covers, they are: one-off purchases from Ghent each adding five points. (You can also buy one for Lloyd, although it doesn’t really promote his relationship with anyone.)
Each room decoration is worth five points. There are two for everyone, so completing the room decoration adds a total of ten points. Not bad at all.
What happens if you spend Affection Points in such a way that you unlock the final scenes for more than one character? Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean you can access both (or all three, if you are) For real competent) at once. Instead, unlock the scene for the first character you speak to at the IBC series in the last chapter whose affection points are 65 or more
