D23 2022 is home to the very first Disney & Marvel Games Showcase, and the show gave us a glimpse into the future of Disney and Marvel games from studios around the world. From Amy Hennig’s new Marvel game featuring Captain America and Black Panther to a new take on Marvel’s Midnight Suns to a new 2D Mickey and Friends platformer to Tron: Identity, there was something for everyone.

There were many announcements in the show, and we’ve rounded them all up below to make sure you don’t miss out!

Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media’s New Game with Marvel is a Captain America and Black Panther Story Set in World War II

Amy Hennig and Skydance New Media have revealed that their upcoming narrative ensemble adventure game with Marvel Entertainment will revolve around Captain America and Black Panther during World War II. During the story, players will travel to Paris, Wakanda and possibly more places.

While the game is currently untitled, it promises to feature four playable heroes – “a young Steve Rogers, aka Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the World War II Black Panther; Gabriel Jones, an American soldier and member of the Howling Commandos; and Nanali, leader of the fledgling Wakandan Spy Network.”

Marvel’s Midnight Suns Gets New Release Date, Switch Version TBD

After an indefinite delay, Marvel’s Midnight Suns now has a new December 2, 2022 release date for new-gen consoles and PC. Unfortunately, the Switch version doesn’t have a date yet. In addition to the release date news, it was revealed that starting October 31, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will be getting prequel shorts that are “a set of five short videos that provide a backstory on the formation of the young core of the Midnight Suns.”

Tron: Identity is a new visual novel adventure from Thomas Was Alone’s Bithell Games

Thomas Was Alone developer Bithell Games has unveiled Tron: Identity, a new visual novel adventure that follows Query, a “detective program tasked with solving the mystery of an unprecedented crime.” While not much more was revealed, we do know that it will hit PC and consoles in 2023.

New Co-op Mickey Mouse and Friends Game, Illusion Island, Announced Exclusively for Nintendo Switch

Disney Illusion Island is a new 2D platformer starring Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy that will be released exclusively on Nintendo Switch in 2023. The art style resembles the recent Mickey Mouse shorts, and the story will see Mickey and friends on a quest to “explore the mysterious islands of Monoth and recover three mystical books to save the world from disaster.” Each character also seems to have their own unique ability, such as Donald’s ability to swim and Goofy’s ability to use a giant spice bottle. Oh, and it supports online and local, split-screen co-op.

Marvel World of Heroes, a new Marvel AR game, has been announced by Pokemon GO developer Niantic

Pokemon GO developer Niantic has revealed that it has teamed up with Marvel Entertainment to develop Marvel World of Heroes, an AR game that allows fans to create their own superhero and team up with their favorite Marvel characters in the real world. Those interested can now pre-register at marvelworldofheroes.com for the global launch on mobile devices in 2023.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora gets a quick gameplay overview

While it was just a quick look, the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase offered fans a quick gameplay overview of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora.

Marvel Snap, the upcoming free-to-play collector’s card game, gets a worldwide release date

Marvel Snap, the upcoming free-to-play card game set in the Marvel universe, will officially launch worldwide on October 18, 2022 on mobile and PC. Players can now pre-register for Marvel Snap and it promises more than 150 Marvel cards. heroes and villains and a shorter average match time than other games in the genre to get players straight into the action.

Return to Monkey Island Gets New Trailer Ahead of Its Talk Like a Pirate Day Launch Date

Return to Monkey Island is set for September 19, aka Talk Like a Pirate Day, and the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase shared with fans an all-new take on the highly anticipated title.

Officially announced at the Summer Game Fest Showcase 2022, Aliens: Dark Descent is a squad-based, top-down shooter that pits a team of space marines against hordes of Xenomorphs. The Disney and Marvel Showcase revealed a first look at the gameplay and showed a little more about how the game will be played when it hits PC and consoles in 2023.

The classic 90s platformer Gargoyles, which loosely follows the plot of the Disney animated series of the same name, will return on modern consoles and PC with updated visuals and controls. Gargoyles was first released on Sega Genesis in 1995 and was one of composer Michael Giacchino’s earlier projects.

While many Avatar fans may be waiting for Ubisoft’s Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, they should also be aware that there will also be a mobile MMORPG shooter called Avatar: Reckoning in the near future.
