Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been patiently waiting for the official release of Daredevil. While Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock has already appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen has not yet donned his suit in the MCU. That will soon change with She-Hulk eventually bring him into the herd. But considering how much his look has already been promoted, will his arrival be disappointing?
Before She-Hulk even premiered, Marvel had already revealed that Daredevil would be appearing in the series. He was even featured in one of the trailers and was seen in his yellow and black suit, true to the comics. While adding images of him in the trailer certainly increased the hype for the latest Marvel series, was it a disservice to the fans? Perhaps the studio should have kept Daredevil’s arrival more secret, rather than revealing his recording early on.
Five episodes in, and She-Hulk still hasn’t introduced Daredevil to the waiting fans. Week after week, fans are bemoaning the character not being brought in yet, fearing the show will let him be a passing cameo. However, towards the end of the final episode, his arrival is haunted by glimpses of his new costume. But the studio has already revealed the entire look in the trailer, again making the new episode fall short of fans’ expectations.
In the last She-Hulk In this episode, Nikki Ramos, the titular character’s friend, asks for help from “the man who makes clothes for superheroes,” aka the Drip Broker. She takes care of her boyfriend and wants to buy her some clothes that fit both her Jennifer Walters and She-Hulk forms. At first, the Drip Broker isn’t interested, but when he sees Jen transform between her two forms, he is eventually persuaded to design clothes that won’t tear during the change. Near the end of the episode, Jen arrives at his secret location to pick up her order, and then it’s revealed that the Drip Broker is also designing something special for Daredevil.
In the Netflix daredevil series, Cox’s Murdock first refuses to wear any body armor. However, during an encounter with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk, he discovers that his nemesis is wearing a suit that even protects him from edged weapons. He is capable of being stung thanks to the fabric he attracts. Murdock then tracks down Melvin Potter, the person who made the armor for Fisk, and asks him to make the first Daredevil suit. The suit in question is red and black, although in the early days of the fighting he wore a yellow and black suit. It seems that the MCU is taking a different path.
The last She-Hulk episode begs the question of why Daredevil is now working with this new character called the Drip Broker, instead of Potter. The only way to justify this shift in costume making is the fact that the Netflix daredevil series is canon in the MCU and the hero storyline picks up where the original series left off. In the Netflix series, Daredevil had to leave his red-and-black suit behind after Benjamin Poindexter, aka Bullseye, wore a replica to attack the New York Bulletin and tarnish the hero’s reputation. So to differentiate himself from the impostor, Daredevil seeks out a new suit in a different color, one that he does wear in the comics.
While that’s all something for fans to wrap their heads around, Episode 5 of She-Hulk at that alleged cliffhanger was quite disappointing for many reasons. When rumors of Cox’s involvement in… Spider-Man: No Way Home started swirling online, fans were really excited to see Daredevil enter the MCU. Cox repeatedly lied about his role in the film, even after leaked photos showed him in a scene with Tom Holland, Marisa Tomei and Jon Favreau. Despite fans being completely convinced that Cox was a part of the movie, his appearance on the big screen led theater people around the world to cheer. The same cannot be said for She-Hulkat least not yet.
Of She-Hulk, the studio tried to take advantage of the character’s popularity to promote the series. His appearance was publicized and largely used as part of the marketing for the show, which resulted in the big reveal in episode 5 not feeling so special. Fans already know that Daredevil is on the show, so why waste time creating suspense or pretending it would be shocking for them to see his yellow helmet appear in the Drip Broker’s shop. In fact, fans are only left wondering if the studio should have kept Daredevil’s appearance a secret unless, of course, there’s a bigger surprise ahead.
so far, She-Hulk has recorded multiple cameos, which have been quite disappointing thus far. Tim Roth’s Emil Blonsky, aka Abomination, returned to the MCU after his final stint in 2008. The Incredible Hulk and a short cameo in 2021 Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He was supposedly reformed and now has “seven soul mates who” [he] met through the prison penpal program.” Benedict Wong’s Sorcerer Supreme also appeared, only to befriend a drunken Madisynn and watch The Sopranos together.
Megan Thee Stallion also made a celebrity cameo as herself in episode 3 and ended up twerking with She-Hulk. All of these cameos have fans worried about Daredevil’s involvement in the show, with many wondering if all the character development the Netflix show has worked on will be lost in just one episode of the show. She-Hulk. The show has transformed itself into a sitcom and it doesn’t seem like the right choice for a character like Daredevil. It remains to be seen how Daredevil’s first official appearance in the MCU will be handled, but either way, his involvement in She-Hulk should have been kept a secret to have the right effect on fans.
