Gameplay

You follow in the footsteps of Cryptosporidium (Crypto) having fun in the 60’s. The KGB, seeing the Furons as a formidable threat, launch a nuclear bomb on the mothership to destroy it. Crypto’s mission office, Pox, managed to transfer his consciousness to a holographic projector. .

Crypto is a threat that the Soviets will do anything to wipe out Bay City. Crypto is the first of its kind to have genitals he calls “The Package”. Our horny little alien is full of jokes throughout the game that add humor to the games while interacting with others. I’m glad developer Black Forest Games chose to stay true to the original and keep it as close to the original title as possible. One side mission has been removed, where Crypto helps someone change their gender. I believe it is a positive step towards raising awareness of the LGBTQ community, even though no comment has been made about its removal.

missions

In 1969, the Soviet Union created the soft drink Revelade. The drink destroys Furon DNA from human brain stems by rotting it away. Among the hippies in Bay City, the soda is widely distributed. Fighting back against Crypto, the Soviet Union makes the decision to dump a huge amount into the bay, to affect the water supply. After the thwarted plot, the Soviet-trained leader of the hippie commune Coyote hires Bongwater blimps to launch Revelade into the atmosphere.

Body robbery is a method Crypto uses to take over a host’s body and hide in their disguise. Use this skill with caution, if seen witnesses will flee and the police will be called.

The cult of Arkvoodle

Crypto discovers that he is part of a prophecy as the son of the Furon god. To gain access to his dish, Crypto must first worship the statues. Once this is unlocked, word of Arkvoodle must be spread, Crypto enlists the help of hippie guru Sharma Larma, allowing him to manage the cult.

As the cult grows, it attracts the attention of the police, the government molests the KGB and even the infamous black ninjas all want to stop you. The responsibilities of managing the cult eventually become too overwhelming for Sharma Larma, who has proclaimed himself the face of Arkvoodle. Crypto soon decides that he has outlived his usefulness.

Graphic & Audio

Beautiful locations that are all unique, from the lovely Bay City to the Moon. The improvements are clearly visible because the details look perfect. The move to Unreal Engine 4 has given the art department full scope to make the game closer to what they originally envisioned. The Playstation 5 handles this perfectly and including fast loading times, it is a joy to play.

The lush environment shows off the power of Unreal Engine 4 and Playstation 5

It can be seen that the background is flickering and the display is noticeably slow. While I was hoping this would be fixed with the Day 1 patch, it’s still being worked on.

The in-game audio is brilliant and one of the collectibles adds to the soundtrack. By collecting LPs, you can play any of the soundtrack tracks whenever you want.

Lifespan

Destroy All Humans 2 – Rejected campaign lasts about 12 hours, if you’re aiming for the platinum trophy you’re looking for 17 hours. My time at DAH2 was very enjoyable. It was definitely a title I was looking forward to when it was announced.

Final Thoughts

The remake of the original received many positive reviews. Destroy All Humans 2 – Rejected, unfortunately suffers from a number of remakes being released. I believe these should be judged individually and not bombed into sites without experiencing the game.

I’ve contacted THQ Nordic about the cutscene rendering issue, and it’s being worked on, so expect a patch in the not-too-distant future. This was the only aspect of the game that was negative for me. Destroy All Humans 2 was the last game to hit the PlayStation, so this could be Crypto’s last outing unless a new title is created.

The characters and the inuendos in them provide the comedic value. This is besides a very good and enjoyable adventure and for this reason I give Destroy All Humans 2 – Rejected the Thumb Culture Gold Award
