Dead Island 2 is finally on the cusp of release and fans are eager to jump back into the unique first-person zombie combat. Since the original Dead Island was which was released more than 10 years ago, many fans have not been able to participate in the series for a while, and there are a few key features that may have even been forgotten. For example, the character classes were a way to differentiate each character and give them each unique ability; however, the classes can be a border areas-flavor redesign.
Dead Island 2 will follow a similar structure to its predecessor, giving each character a set of skills that set them apart from their allies. Hopefully the character classes in the sequel will offer more diversity and give players a good incentive to choose one character over another. Happy, Dead Island 2 not only has the ability to learn from its past, but can put together its lessons by looking at other similar games. The border areas series has made a name for itself as a class-based co-op shooter and Dead Island 2‘s classes could benefit from aligning with the border areas classes.
What makes Borderlands lessons unique?
The border areas series first became popular for its unusual humor and addictive looter playstyle. The original game had four playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and personalities, so players couldn’t just pick their preference border areas‘ characters character based on their abilities, but also based on their charisma and attitude.
as the border areas franchise evolved, as did the characters and classes. What started with simple skills like improved scouting and melee combat evolved into skills that required summoning mechs or creating clones. Not only were each character’s individual abilities useful, but many characters also received additional improvements with certain weapon types, encouraging the use of a specific weapon, but not requiring the character to use only a single weapon type.
border areas has been able to create a wide variety of character classes through each of its titles that still feel fresh and different from previous iterations of a similar class. Even if two characters seem like generic soldiers adept at firearms, their skills, abilities, and personalities make them stand out and play differently. The border areas classes offer enough variety that, even if two players choose to play the same character, their playstyles can vary greatly based on their progress in the skill tree and choice of weapons.
How Dead Island 2 can take Borderlands lessons
The lessons in the original Dead Island each character offered unique abilities and skills, but often felt like there weren’t enough unique abilities to pull a player into one character class. Since the game focuses on melee, most classes are based on efficiency with a certain type of melee weapon, be it blunt, sharp, or thrown. Since firearms are initially scarce in Dead Islandonly one character is considered a firearms specialist with weapons-specific skills.
The main problem with the lessons in Dead Island is their lack of variety and useful, unique skills. border areas‘ attitude obviously makes for more unrealistic and bizarre skills, but Dead Island 2‘s combat aims to be bombastic and over-the-top, which could play well with powerful, expansive character abilities. Every class in Dead Island 2 must differ drastically from each other, and each character must also have their own personality that coincides with their particular class, just as is the case in border areas.
Rather than simply allowing a particular character to be more skilled with specific weapons, Dead Island 2 must create very different and special skill trees that allow players to choose their favorite play style with a character with skills that feel unique. Given that both border areas and Dead Island 2 encourage co-op play, and border areas gives players the opportunity and freedom to collaborate with their teammates by providing a wide variety of character classes, Dead Island 2 should learn from border areas and create drastically different classes that work well together.
Dead Island 2 launches on February 3, 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
