Between stranger things, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandand Important role, Dungeons and Dragons has enjoyed unprecedented mainstream success in recent years. Of Dungeons and Dragons currently developing his evergreen A D&D system, and the Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves movie that will be released on March 3, 2023, fans of the tabletop RPG have a lot to look forward to.
It is a time-honored tradition of Dungeons and Dragons players to take inspiration from their favorite media to take back to their table. As a franchisee, fire emblem practically begs to come to TTRPGs with its high fantasy and class based gameplay. Fire Emblem: Three Houses is especially perfect for its dynamic characters, political intrigue and unique weapons. Here are some ways players can make the main characters of them: Fire Emblem: Three Houses in Dungeons and Dragons.
Edelgard – Oath of Conquest Paladin
The Black Eagles home leader, Princess Edelgard von Hresvelg, is known for her strength of mind and body, as well as her imperious leadership and unwavering determination. As such, Paladin’s oath of conquest is the perfect one Dungeons and Dragons class for her. As a Paladin, Edelgard supports her allies with her aura of protection, laying on of hands and spells, and the oath of conquest allows one to dominate the battlefield and sow fear in the hearts of those who dare to raise a hand against her to lift. As a princess, the variant human with the noble background works well for Edelgard.
Edelgard’s little crest of Seiros can be replicated with the divine battle of the paladin. For achievements, War Caster or Sentinel can allow her to maintain control of the battlefield either with spells or opportunity attacks, while Heavy Armor Master or Shield Master can make her even harder to defeat. Alternatively, Inspirational Leader can be a great way to represent her unparalleled leadership skills. For players looking to delve deeper into Edelgard’s underhand side, a Mastermind Rogue multiclass can give her additional skills and leadership abilities, as well as skill in disguise kits to help players pull off their own Flame Emperor stunt.
While Edelgard’s ax Aymr varies in abilities between games, he can deal extra damage to dragons in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. As such, getting a Dragonslayer battleaxe or greataxe would be the best option.
Dimitri – Cavalier Fighter/Diligent Barbarian
Dimitri Blaiddyd is the intense leader of the Blue Lions in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Dimitri has two aspects: the noble prince and the wrathful conqueror. As such, multiclassing like Cavalier Fighter and Zealot Barbarian is the best way to show both faces. The Fighter levels allow him to defend himself and his allies while taking down enemies on his horse, while Zealot Barbarian allows him to become an ineradicable force of destruction. Like Edelgard, Variant Human of the Noble Background would fit, although the Haunted One background is off Van Richten’s guide to Ravenloft would also fit, given his traumatic backstory.
To represent Dimitri’s little Crest of Blaiddyd beyond the devastating attacks of the Zelot’s Divine Fury, the Great Weapon Master Feat would enable Dimitri to destroy enemies with mighty blows and break through enemies. Mounted Combatant would help him excel in horseback combat, even more than is normal for a Cavalier, while Polearm Master is a powerful D&D feat choice with his signature weapon choice.
Areadbhar, the Heroes’ Relic wielded by Dimitri, is a fearsome glaive with the ability to deal effective damage to any creature. As such, many weapons can be used to represent it. Certain death, sharpness or vicious shine – or even a simple +3 – would be a solid choice if you don’t use home brewing Dungeons and Dragons own weapon for Dimitri to wield.
Claude – Drakewarden Ranger
Claude von Riegan, the leader of the Golden Deers in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, is a cunning but laid-back archer who often fights from the back of a wyvern. As such, the Drakewarden Ranger is a natural choice for him. The Ranger class already provides fantastic support for bow-swing classes, and Drakewarden’s drake companion can eventually take to the skies, making it an ideal battle horse. Like the last two, Variant Human Noble works well for Claude’s Race and Background.
The Crest of Riegan gives Claude the ability to occasionally recover hit points – an ability that can be easily replicated with the Ranger’s spell-making abilities in D&D. The Sharpshooter feat can enable Claude to hit any target and make it count, while the Mounted Combatant feat is also a great choice by giving his drake companion extra protection. Also known as the Master Tactician, players can take a number of levels in Mastermind Rogue or Lore Bard if they want to dabble more in Claude’s cunning side.
Failnaught, Dimitri’s Heroes’ Relic, is a powerful bow that also deals bonus damage to dragons. Kill every magic bow with Arrows or Dragon in D&D could represent this, but an Oathbow would be perfect for players lucky enough to get one.
Byleth – Battlemaster Fighter
The player character of Fire Emblem: Three Houses is a taciturn tactician known for his mastery of battle. With its versatility, the Battle Master Fighter is a perfect match for Byleth. Battle Masters have dozens of maneuvers through the Combat Superiority feature, which can be customized to control the course of the battle. As a mercenary, the Mercenary Veteran makes a great backdrop for the Ashen Demon, and while Variant Human is the obvious first choice for a race, the Reborn Ancestral Legacy could be an interesting choice, given Byleth’s unique origins.
While there are no feats that perfectly mimic the Crest of Flame, Sentinel can mimic its ability to avoid counter-attacks, and the Martial Adept feat gives them more Superiority Dice with their Battle Master levels. As a highly customizable character, any number of multiclassing options can be in Dungeons and Dragons could suit Byleth – they are one of the most versatile units in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. As such, Eldritch Knight or even a Bladesinger Wizard could be interesting alternatives to more magically inclined Byleths.
The Legendary Sword of the Creator is the Hero Relic wielded by Byleth in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The weapon can extend to hit remote creatures, making a whip a more accurate weapon to use than a longsword, unless the DM homebrews a special longsword with the reach ability. In either sense, the Sword of the Creator, like many Heroes’ Relics, can deal devastating damage to dragons, rendering the Dragonslayer weapons of Dungeons and Dragons fame is a big part of it.
