Trivia, fun facts and quizzes are everywhere. Everyone loves a fun fact, and on top of that, everyone loves being the one to prove they’re the one who knows one. Trivia games have been around for almost as long as games in general, popping up as word of mouth, nightly events, board games, and today they have even become video games.

It’s always a fun time to gather a group of friends, cram into someone’s living room, and be the smartest among them all. Today, many trivia games require you to go to a website on your phone or tablet, enter a room code, and then use your portable electronics as personal controllers, answering the questions presented in the game on TV. And with so many solid titles out there, it can be hard to choose which departure from the classic quiz formula is best for you and your group.

10 It’s quiz time

It’s Quiz Time was developed by a team who worked for the multiplayer quiz game developer, Buzz! Their games were popular on consoles in the late 2000s, and now some of the team has returned to bring trivia fun to the current generation.

The game has a whopping 25,000 questions spread across dozens of categories, from classic trivia game topics like media to more niche questions like memes. You can play with up to eight players in multiplayer mode, but you can also challenge the AI host, Salli, to play alone as well.

9 The wheel of enormous proportions

The first, but far from the only Jackbox Party Pack game on our list, The Wheel of Enorous Proportions, came to us in Party Pack 8. Winning takes trivia skills and a bit of luck. You answer three questions each round and the highest scorers receive a disc to place on The Wheel.

After those three questions, everyone chooses a square on The Wheel to place the earned tokens, and then everyone takes turns. The points shown are awarded to anyone who placed a disc where the wheel landed. The winner is the first person to reach 20,000 points, the easier you are at trivia.

8 Daddy’s Quiz

Papa’s Quiz is a simple, easy to master quiz game with over 3,000 questions. You can play alone or in a group of up to eight. You create your own avatars for use throughout the game, and some of the choices are nothing short of spectacular in the game’s bold, quirky art style.

There is an assortment of question styles, both text and image based, and the categories are divided into general and junior questions, so everyone can play along. It even occasionally breaks out into a dance party.

7 Knowledge is power

In this trivia game on a delightful stop-motion game show set, race your friends to the top of the Pyramid of Knowledge. And not only do you have to be smart, but you also have to be fast, because the points for the correct answer are given in the order everyone buzzed – counting nanoseconds.

On your way to the top, answer questions to help your character climb the pyramid. For each question, you get the choice to give yourself an advantage for the upcoming question or sabotage one of your opponents to slow them down. Play smart, play fast and reach the top.

6 Who wants to be a millionaire?

While this isn’t the first time this classic TV game show has been turned into a video game, it is the most recent! and the most impressive. You can play alone, in local multiplayer or in an online battle royale mode with up to 100 participants.

As with the game show, each game requires you to answer 15 questions, one harder than the other, for increasing amounts until you reach the million. The more you play, the more categories you can unlock. In addition to over 3,000 questions in the unlockable categories, the UK, US, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany each also have 2,000 region-specific questions.

5 family feud

While it certainly lacks its more iconic hosts, Family Feud brings all the competitive fun of the game show to your console. You split into two teams of up to five players, and a representative from each family will quickly try to enter to guess how 100 people responded to a survey.

The answer that was most popular with survey respondents can answer the question or pass it on to the other family. To win the round, you have to guess all the answers given for a survey, otherwise the other team can steal your points by guessing only one correctly.

4 Fibbage

Occasionally packaged as part of the Jackbox Party Packs, or as a standalone game, Fibbage requires you to be good at both trivia and lying. The host will offer the bulk of a fun fact with one keyword or phrase missing. Everyone must enter a credible wrong answer to be shown along with the real answer.

Points are awarded not only for guessing correctly, but also for each player you fool with your made-up answer. The primary form of gameplay is trying to fool your friends, but the merit of the game is to select the funniest, most absurd answers as well. Make your own fun.

3 Trivial Chase Live!

Starting out as a board game in 1979 and moving to console as gaming changed over time, the bones of Trivial Pursuit have not changed. You will compete to earn wedges, aiming to be the first to complete your wheel. The questions fall under one of six categories: sports and leisure, entertainment, arts and literature, history, science and nature or geography.

There are different types of questions, and the first person to earn six wedges is the champion. And not only is this game itself fun, classic and varied enough to play over and over, so is the soundtrack impeccable. High-five to the bassist who has done the most.

2 You don’t know Jack

Another legacy trivia game implemented for console, the You Don’t Know Jack series has been running since 1995. It’s digital and tabletop. It has been online and offline. It was in Jackbox Party Packs, it was freestanding on consoles, and it’s even been on Facebook.

The gameplay depends on the edition of the game, but most of it requires answering trivia questions to win or lose money for your total. You may eventually choose to “disadvantages” your friends to force them to answer more difficult questions, and getting it wrong is made worse by the fact that the host can and shall schedule for it.

1 Trivia Murder Party

Trivia Murder Party, another awesome Jackbox Party Pack we love, traps you and your friends in a haunted hotel and answer trivia to stay alive. If you get a question wrong, you’ll be punished – it’s usually death, but it can include a series of penalties that will leave you alive, but make the game much harder for you.

However, the dead can still play and they can even still win. The final round is a lightning-quick trivia, where each correct answer rewards you with one step closer to the exit. Ghosts, to compensate for the unfortunate circumstance of being dead, have an additional response they can choose that is inaccessible to the survivor. If you outperform the person still alive, you’ll come back to life in their place, but you can (and probably will) be killed again while your friends are fighting for their lives too. The first person to get out the door alive is the winner.
