Dragon Ball is more than just an anime and manga series; it’s now a franchise spanning over thirty years of movies, video games, and more. Its popularity cannot be emphasized enough and it is without a doubt one of the most iconic anime series in the world.
Due to its popularity, Dragon Ball has been involved in many crossovers over the years. Be it other anime or video games, Dragon Ball has often been characterized for its enduring popularity and classic legacy. Here are some of the best crossovers out Dragon Ball has been involved with.
7 Puzzle & Dragons
Puzzle & Dragons is an extremely popular mobile game in Japan that has been running since 2012. The game involves matching gems in a puzzle to fight waves of enemies. The game is one of the most profitable mobile apps of all time, and its popularity has even spawned an anime series that ran from 2016 to 2018.
As a popular mobile game, Puzzle & Dragonshas had the opportunity to participate in a number of crossover events. One of those events involves a huge collaboration with Dragon Ball, by adding dungeons, enemies and characters from the legendary anime series. Unfortunately, the event was limited to just Japan, although the game is available internationally, but it was still a pretty robust crossover.
6 Fortnite
Fortnite is one of the most popular video games of the last decade, a battle royale shooter with building elements. Released as early access in 2017, the game is universally known, even by those outside the gaming communities, and is constantly being updated.
Fortnite has often collaborated with many franchises, and Dragon Ball is his newest partner. Players can get characters like Goku as skins and even use the Kamehameha in matches. The crossover is quite intensive, and even those who are not a fan of Fortnite might find the crossover appealing enough to check out. While it may not be the same as actually using the character like in other games, many people jumped at the chance to play Goku in Fortnite.
5 Battle Stadium DON’T
Crossing multiple hit manga titles is always a fan favorite, and Shueisha, the company behind the manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump, know it very well. That’s why there are occasional attempts to have the many To jump manga series crossover, usually in video games.
One of these attempts was: Battle Stadium DON’Ta platform fighter with characters from Dragon Ball, A pieceand Naruto. The game plays in the same way as the Super Smash Bros. series, and 20 characters from the three franchises are available to play. While the grid and scope pale in comparison to later To jump crossovers, this is still a fun game to play, although it was never released outside of Japan.
4 Dream 9 Super Collaboration Special
Another cross between To jump titles, this animated special features characters from Dragon Ball, A pieceand Toriko. These three series have worked together in duos before, but never all at once. The plot of the special generally includes one of the many food tournaments held in Toriko like the many characters of A piece, Torikoand Dragon Ball compete for the flesh of a rare monster.
This special was split into two parts, for a total running time of 43 minutes. The special was a rare occasion, especially since animated crossovers of this magnitude are extremely rare. Although the special is only available in Japanese, it is certainly a milestone for not only Dragon Ballbut also the other two series.
3 J-Stars Victory VS
Shueishas Weekly Shonen Jump has released many popular manga and anime titles, including: Bleach, Yu Yu Hakusho, My Hero Academiaand much more. To jump is a brand in its own right, and the many heroes and warriors associated with the magazine are known all over the world.
Several games have been created to represent the many heroes of Shonen Jump cross, like J-Stars Victory VSa game released in 2014. This is the first attempt to create a 3D crossover arena fighter with To jump characters, and it was relatively successful, with 52 characters over thirty To jump series. While J-Stars Victory VS is not the best arena fighter, it is still a great option for To jump fans who want to play with their favorite characters.
2 Cross-era
Joint one-shots in manga are quite common, but not many of them feature such juggernauts as Dragon Ball or A piece. Cross-era is a very unique circumstance as it brings both series together for a very brief moment, with manga artist Akira Toriyama and Eiichiro Oda teaming up on the one-shot.
Cross-era doesn’t have much story, so the main draw of this particular crossover is the art and the interactions between characters. The crossover pairs a Dragon Ball character with a A piece character, so fans can watch Zoro argue with Piccolo or Bulma go on a treasure hunt with Nami. Fans of both series will certainly be pleased with this short but excellent crossover.
1 Jumping Ultimate Stars
Jumping Ultimate Stars is a sequel to Jumping superstarsan enormous Shonen Jump crossover game with characters from the manga anthology. The game not only features a large cast of playable characters, but also an even greater number of supporting and auxiliary characters that can be placed in gear very similar to a manga page.
Jumping Ultimate Stars is one of the largest To jump crossover games available, with 56 playable characters and hundreds of supporting and auxiliary characters. All in all, more than forty different To jump titles from past decades are represented in this game. Unfortunately, the game is only available in Japanese, but you can still enjoy it even without knowledge of the language.
