For 2018 Solo: A Star Wars Storyit seemed like everyone Star Wars movie would be a blockbuster, but now Solo may need video games to bolster its reputation. The franchise is one of the largest in the world and each franchise has been a huge commercial success. However, the release of Solo showed that even a franchise as big as Star Wars can struggle at the till. Instead of making a billion dollars like its predecessor The last Jedi, solo went on to gross just $392 million worldwide. This caused Disney to be Star Wars plans, and any hope of a continuation of the story has so far been dashed.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Many factors have led to the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story, and it’s very hard to pinpoint exactly what went wrong. It is most likely not due to the quality as it has been rated quite well. The story followed a younger Han Solo before the events of A new hope, and it was actually a pretty fun adventure in the galaxy far, far away. The story even ended with a hint of what was to come, but as of right now, it looks like there are no plans to follow that sequel plague. If Disney doesn’t continue with ‘s dragging plot threads Solo in a movie or TV show, the video game industry would Star Wars story.

Solo: A Star Wars Story Awaits a Sequel

Solo: A Star Wars Story told the story of a young Han Solo before he found himself in the Mos Eisley Cantina during A new hope. Viewers got to see him when he met Chewbacca and Lando, and they first saw him flying the Millennium Falcon. It also told a new kind of story in the Star Wars galaxy disconnected from the Force and its users. This was just a story about a man trying to make money in the galaxy, and he got dragged into a conflict bigger than he was. It was both familiar and new.

A new hope technically serves as a kind of sequel to Solo, but the movie has set up brand new events that fans haven’t been able to see play. At the end of Solo, Qi’ra’s character contacted a mysterious figure after she and Han defeated the crime lord Dryden Vos. This mysterious character turned out to be Darth Maul, who was last seen in live-action in The Phantom Menaceand was later healed in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This provided a brand new story for Maul in between his meddling during The Clone Wars and before his death in rebels.

The end of Solo alluded to future events that would see Qi’ra and Maul work closely together. Viewers have no idea what the two characters would be working on or what it would mean for the larger galaxy, and right now it seems like they’ll never know. Disney has seemingly deleted every future A Star Wars Story movies and has pledged to release Disney Plus shows instead. As the Lando series ever sees the light of day, it may continue these events, but at this point there is no indication that Solo gets any kind of follow up. Instead of, Star Wars fans just wonder what happens next.

A video game can close the story

While Disney has given no indication that it plans to continue the story, the video game industry would be a great place to do so. Star Wars games have always filled in lore gaps and explored different parts of the galaxy that the movies don’t have, and the Solo story seems to fall into that category. The characters and events that would come after could make for a great video game, and it would finally give fans the closure they want.

Right now it seems like Star Wars games tend to fall into two different categories. The games are either first-person shooters like Star Wars Battlefront that give players a glimpse into the actual wars of Star Wars, whether they are action adventure games or RPGs that follow the Jedi or Sith. There don’t seem to be any major deviations from those two categories, and the future of Star Wars games seem to be tied to that as well, Respawn is working on another Jedi-focused game and an FPS game, and there are a ton of Star Wars games yet to be revealed. If the games follow the current trend, they will also focus on the Force or the actual wars, but a Solo sequel game could do something else.

One of the things that a lot of Star Wars Fans Call For is an exploration of the galaxy’s criminal underworld. Star Wars 1313 seemed to be just that, but it was canceled when Disney closed LucasArts. As of now, there doesn’t seem to be a game coming out that will explore that part of the galaxy or serve as a spiritual successor to 1313. The Solo sequel game could fulfill both wishes as the film’s lingering discussions wrap up, and it could be a pretty great time.

Solo gave viewers a hint of the criminal underworld of Star Wars, and the sequel game should do the same, as Qi’ra and Maul team up to build something out of the criminal syndicates. This would most likely produce a game that explores this underworld in a high stakes adventure that would shape the galaxy. Players can immerse themselves in this part of the canon and experience a story that has nothing to do with the Force and the larger Skywalker story.

Like a Solo continue checks all these boxes, then it could be the game that Star Wars fans have wanted, and a great addition to the franchise. It could close this chapter of star warss while also giving players that criminal underworld they’ve been asking for. If Disney has no plans to follow up Solothen the video game industry deserves a chance to explore this part of the story.
