The game isn’t without pesky bugs that hinder the fun, but The Sinking City is a world worth getting through those bugs to explore further.
#10 Deponia

Tonally Deponia disrupts the apple cart for most of the Steampunk-esque games on this list. It has a quirky and sometimes laughable point-and-click adventure plot that will always keep you hooked, and while the switch to consoles from its home was a bit lackluster in terms of how it handled the controller, regardless of a game which should be watched by all fans of the genre.

Born out of a successful KickStarter campaign, Sunless Sea, an RPG x Roguelike hybrid offers players a beautiful and intriguing world to explore, wearing its ambition on the sleeve. It doesn’t hit every target, but it hits more than enough to win players over with its charm and systemic depth. These combine to make Sunless Sea a Steampunk world worth exploring further.

Frostpunk is a tough city builder where every choice has a huge impact on the citizens you have to take care of in this winter wonderland. The stakes are huge and we rarely see games of this genre take these types of stakes and succeed – but Frostpunk certainly does.

The oldest game on this list and one that has stayed on the radar thanks to its platform-to-platform ports, including the Xbox One. It has a unique audiovisual design and some brilliant puzzles to crack. While the point-and-click systems don’t lead to the best player controls, the culmination of all the other elements leads to something really special.
#5 Deep Rock Galactic

The immersive sim has sadly declined in prominence over the years, but Dishonored is one of the most recent endeavors in space, and certainly one of the very best. In three titles, the Dishonored franchise has continued to reinvent itself with fascinating powers, a fascinating cast of characters and a richly detailed world and a completely entangled Steampunk world that never ceases to impress.

Tracking the undersea expanse that was Bioshock’s Rapture would always be a challenge, but the clouds and floating symbol of American ideals, Columbia, was the best possible follow-up. Though more of an FPS than the thrilling original title, the world is still as richly detailed and fascinating to explore. Far from the escort mission it seems at first glance, this adventure between Booker Dewitt and Elizabeth is one that continues to age like fine wine, and a Steampunk experience not to be missed.
