Days gone by is one of the most immersive zombie video games that is not The last of us, and Sony is working on a movie adaptation starring Sam Heughan. So many horror video games have been made into movies in the past, be it Silent Hill or Resident Eviland Days gone by can be more exciting than any of them.
But the survival game isn’t the first release that gamers thought would be on the list of games in dire need of an update, and they have some ideas of their own as to which ones have the most potential. As the race to make the first great video game movie continues, Redditors believe these games are the most likely candidates.
OpportunitySimilar28 wants to see Metal Gear Solid reaching the big screen and remarking, “I like the story and feel like it can be adapted as a movie or a series. I’m getting tired of everything becoming a series now, so I’d rather have a three-part movie.” A three-part film is quite optimistic, as a sequel would depend entirely on how successful the first film is. But given that the Metal Gear Solid games are unapologetic in their unapologetic storytelling, a trilogy is just what it needs.
Anyway, a covert spy movie starring Snake as the main character could be such an epic and entertaining action thriller. A Metal Gear Solid movie is currently in development, so the Redditor’s dream may come true, but it’s been in development for a while.

Games are constantly evolving when it comes to storytelling, which is why so many fans want to see them come to life on the big screen. However, ReddYYouBanMe opts for a game that goes all the way back to 1986 and is more of a fun shooter game without any concern in the world about the story, at least not until the later games.
The Redditor thinks metro has tons of potential, stating “I would go with a Blade Runner meets Aliens approach for a metro movie. In short, a mystery mixed with solid action, complemented by a weird atmosphere.” That’s a great pitch, and it would make up for the disappointing Alien games released in the past decade.
Mirror’s Edge
ILuveMemes4Breakfast wants to see a film adaptation of Mirror’s Edge, a free-running game about a woman who evades government surveillance in a futuristic city. The Redditor says, “I think mirror’s edge could be cool if they find a way to turn the world into a nice set. I’ve always thought it was an extremely visually appealing game.”
A Mirror’s Edge movie may be a little overdue, as the original 2008 game took advantage of the popularity of parkour at the time, which has largely died out, save for the meme of The office. However, it’s still one of the most unique-looking games of the 21st century, and it would make an interesting aesthetic for a movie.
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill is an iconic survival horror series and was made into a movie in 2006. Unfortunately, the film was not as true to the franchise and was universally damaged. But Throwtheclownaway20 thinks the second game, the best game in the series, still has the potential to be a great movie.
The Redditor explains, “I want a disturbing, suspenseful, low-action, survival horror that ends with a guy talking to his bedridden dead wife on a rooftop. I want a SH2 that’s 2 hours of fear and pain that the public is still thinking about a week later.” A Silent Hill 2 adaptation would leave the audience in bits, because the horror is all psychological and the story is emotionally draining, and it’s by no means the simple torture movie that the 2006 version is.
myst
myst is a classic puzzle video game set in an entire island, where players encounter extraordinary things that lead to a greater mystery. Infinitudity believes the game should be made into a movie, believing it could provide “a slow brain-teasing fantasy that spills over into the book series.”
The film adaptation would struggle to break away from Lost, which has such a similar concept, but all it has to do is hold the landing. It could make for a great edge-of-seat mystery, and as the Redditor points out, it leads to a slew of books that build on the mystery, clamoring for a huge movie franchise à la Harry Potter.
Ridge Racer
Ridge Racer is one of the most unique racing games on the original PlayStation, as the futuristic-looking race tracks and amazingly designed vehicles are visual spectacles. Birdseedinthepark wants to see the non-story-driven racer turned into a movie, but it comes with an asterisk. The Redditor wants”Ridge Racer with the original ‘Techno’ soundtrack.”
Ridge Racer may not be its biggest blockbuster, as the niche subgenre of futuristic neon-lit racing movies has never fared so well. Both Speed Racer and Tron Legacy had disappointing box office performances (via Box Office Mojo), but there’s no denying how incredible they look and how hypnotic they sound. Those kinds of movies are absolute audio/visual experiences, and Ridge Racer would be no different.
god of war
Callmemaready wants to see a film adaptation of god of war, which fans have been craving for years. The Redditor says: “God of War, hardly any dialogue, ultra-violent, kind of like the episode of” primal when he fights the monkeys.” The film could be a raw and animal revenge story, and Robert Eggers should direct the film.
Like Metal Gear Solida god of war project is currently in development at Amazon Prime Video, but not as a movie. The epic and violent video game based on Greek mythology will be a series on the streaming service. But that’s no reason to worry. if the boys is an indication, Amazon won’t stop the game’s gore and violence, and it could eventually come from Amazon Game of Thrones.
Turok
Flat_Foz_7318 wants to see a film adaptation of Turok, the ultimate video game between humans and dinosaurs. The Redditor confesses: “I’m genuinely surprised we don’t… Turok movie.” A Turok film adaptation would be like an 80s movie à la Big Trouble in Little China. For some reason there hasn’t been a renaissance of John Carpenter-esque action-horror movies, but there definitely should have been.
Turok is the movie that could lead that renaissance, and it would be like James Cameron directing Jurassic Park. The filmmaker raced Spielberg for the rights, noting that his Jurassic Park would have been Aliens with dinosaurs. If that’s the kind of movie Cameron wants to make, he could easily get the rights to… Turok and make just that.
Super Smash Bros.
This user thinks Super Smash Bros. game could be fantastic, and they even have their own idea for the film’s aesthetic. The Redditor states, “I’d like a Super Smash Bros. movie filmed in the same vein as death race or The sentenced.” A Super Smash Bros. movie would be a licensing nightmare as it is a crossover fighting game with pokemon, Final Fantasy, Sonic the hedgehogand dozens of other franchises.
Since different movie studios own the licensing rights to all the different video game properties, it’s almost an impossibility that the movie could ever take place. However, there is no doubt that it would put Mortal Kombat and any other movie about tournaments to be ashamed of if they existed.
Resident Evil
While so many video game movies have been box-office bombed, the Resident Evil film series has failed upwards. Despite being severely damaged and hated by fans of the games, Resident Evil movies have been wildly successful, as the series consists of six blockbuster films, and they have grossed over $1.2 billion in total (via Box Office Mojo).
However, a deleted user wants to see a more faithful adaptation of the source material and asks rhetorically, “I know it’s already been made, but can I get a really good Resident Evil movie?” There is so much potential for a great REGARDING movie, especially if Resident Evil 4 is being adapted. Since the Netflix original series has failed and won’t be renewed for a second season, maybe it’s time to think again REs movie strategy.
