On September 13, Nintendo fans watched in awe as the new Nintendo Direct aired, featuring several new video games and their release dates. Most fans have focused on two games: Fire Emblem Engage and the long-awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Finally, fans heard the official name of the game and the release date, which will come on May 12, 2023.
Fans of such fantasy games are sure to love these new entries and the weapons they wield. Swords are both loved and hated by various game fans. But there is no doubt that they feature some of the most iconic and best weapons in gaming.
10 Sword of Light (Dragon Quest XI)
The Sword of Light is the most crucial weapon in Dragon Quest XII and is one of the main goals the Luminary and his party are pursuing to save the world. There are mainly two Sword of Lights in the game, one of which is stolen by Mordegon.
This makes for an interesting quest that many fans weren’t expecting as the Luminary and his companions pick up the materials needed to forge a new Sword of Light capable of fighting Mordegon. This makes an already impressive sword more personal to the characters and players.
The missions given to the Dragonborn by the Daedric Princes are without a doubt some of the most enjoyable in the game. One of those quests leads to players getting Meridian’s blade, Dawnbreaker, which is one of the best weapons players can get. Skyrim.
This sword is incredibly useful against undead warriors such as draugr and vampires. However, Dragonborn must be careful when the light explodes as if they are a vampire themselves (or if one of their companions is undead), it will harm them a bit. However, for players inundated with tons of draugr, this blade will take them down quickly.
8 Frostmourne (World of Warcraft)
The Lich King has probably become the most iconic villain, if not the character, of world of warcraft, and what is almost as legendary is his mourning sword, Frostmourne.
This icy sword is inspired by several swords from fiction, such as King Arthur’s legendary Excalibur and Elric of Melniboné’s Stormbringer, a black sword that consumes the souls of whatever it slays. These two blades alone are some of the most iconic in fiction, so making Frostmourne out of both would certainly make for a pretty epic weapon.
7 Excalibur (Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla)
Be it real, myth or legend, there is probably no more famous sword in the world than Excalibur, King Arthur’s sword. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla brings this knife to life in this Viking era of England. Eivor travels under Stonehenge and retrieves this Isu artifact.
The blade carries a mix of fantasy and sci-fi as everything around the Isu does. It retains the qualities of the blade from the legend while preserving the mythos surrounding it Assassin’s Creed. It is also an extremely reliable blade with a large flash of light that flashes out as it swings and it is one of the best weapons in the world. Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.
6 Falchion (Fire Emblem series)
Most protagonists in the fire emblem franchise have wielded swords, but none are more iconic or better than the first, Falchion. The sword has undergone a few changes depending on the title it appears in, but it always remains pivotal to the plot.
Forged from the fang of Naga, this sacred sword is the curse of dragons. It is enriched with a lot of history, starting at the hands of Marth’s ancestor, Anri, later falling to Marth, and much later to Chrom and Lucina.
5 Buster Sword (Final Fantasy VII)
Most of the protagonists of Final Fantasy are known for their iconic swords. However, there is no better sword in the franchise than Cloud’s Buster Sword.
This ridiculously large sword is very similar to Guts’s from the manga, Berserk, and is too big compared to Cloud’s body. Not only is this blade a thrill to look at and slash through enemies, but it also has a great backstory about how Cloud got his friend Zeke’s sword.
4 Moonlight Sword (titles from FromSoftware’s Souls)
The Moonlight Sword has appeared in every souls game to date, or at least some version of it. In Demon Soulsthe dark souls trilogy, Bloodborneand Elden Ring, the can be handled by players every time, although it usually has a different name. It is the only weapon in the franchise to appear in every game this way.
The sword is a perfect weapon for melee builds in Elden Ring. In blood-borne, the weapon is first wielded by a boss in the DLC known as Ludwig, the Holy Blade. It also occurs in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice used by the Divine Dragon boss, but looks very different because the game is set in a fictional Japan.
3 Yamato (Devil May Cry series)
Yamato, Vergil’s signature weapon, has played quite an important role in the Devil May Cry series debuts in one of the best Devil May Cry spell, Devil May Cry 3. This blade initially helped Nero awaken his demonic powers.
Like Dante’s Rebellion and Sparda’s sword, Yamato was one of the three weapons Sparda split his powers into. Although Yamato has played an important role in the story of Devil May Crymainly around Nero, Devil May Cry 3, 4and 5 always gives players the option to play the story after completing it again as Vergil with his sword.
2 Mortal Blade (Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice)
This knife seems impossible to handle because it kills everyone who wields it. However, thanks to Sekiro’s constant resurrection, he is one of the few who can hold the knife. This sword has a dark look of red and black that can kill even immortals
It is the main object in the story and is the deciding factor of the game, regardless of the chosen ending. The crimson odachi also carries a counterpart called the Black Mortal Blade which has a very different ability.
1 Master Sword (The Legend of Zelda series)
There is no sword better in video games than Link’s iconic weapon, the Master Sword. This sword was first introduced in the third game, A link to the pastand has since been obtained in the same way as Link drawing a sword from stone.
The magazine has been largely the same over the years, with the most radical change in Skyward Sword who gave an origin story to the leaf. The following Zelda installment, Tears of the Kingdomalso seems like it will give a new take on the knife.
