In what came as a surprising announcement ahead of D23 next month, it has been revealed that a Disney and Marvel Games Showcase will be broadcast on September 9. D23 was already preparing an exciting expo with all the content and media announced for the future, but having a dedicated games showcase suggests that the game content is important enough to make an exclusive presentation.

The Disney and Marvel Games Showcase is fantastic for gaming fans because it’s solely dedicated to the interactive medium, rather than fans combing through the wholesale D23 Expo for news specific to gaming. Only a handful of developers, publishers, contributors, and their games have been confirmed for the showcase, and much is left to speculation when it comes to predicting who or what else will show up. That said, there are still several properties or titles fans can expect to see based on what has been previously announced.

Everything already confirmed for the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase

Fans can expect guaranteed announcements from Disney and Pixar Games, Marvel Games, Lucasfilm Games and 20th Century Games, according to the original reveal from the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. The showcase is set up to contain news of some sort for titles such as: LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, Marvel’s Midnight Sun, Disney Dreamlight Valleyand Skydance’s “ensemble” Marvel game.

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga has already been released and will therefore likely have revealed DLC for it. Otherwise, there are several games announced in a short teaser or logo reveal that could potentially make an appearance on the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase. Looking at the list of developers, publishers or collaborations already mentioned, there are a few hints as to what other IPs and titles can expect. The 20th Century Games umbrella oversees titles like Aliens: Fireteam Elite and a previously announced but untitled game in the Aliens IP, both of which could appear.

Likewise, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Disney Dreamlight Valley occupy much of the display case, although the length of the display case is currently undisclosed. Anyway, there will certainly be a lot of surprises and announcements on the games that have already been confirmed to come out, but the highly anticipated titles will probably come from Star Wars and Marvel.

Star Wars’ IP Needs a Big Win at the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase

Star WarsIP has taken a complicated place in gaming lately. Like any interconnected, branching media franchise, there are some entries that fans like and some that they don’t. however, the Star Wars Unfortunately, IP crashes due to two recent game blunders: Star Wars Eclipse and the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic redo.

Star Wars EclipseIts projected release window of 2027 or 2028 is due to overwhelming internal challenges, while developer Quantic Dream is also facing backlash regarding founder David Cage. In other unfortunate news, the remake of Knights of the Old Republic imploded recently with development directors fired and the expected release window also delayed for a few years. The latter game seems to be in more trouble than the former, with rumors that it may even be canceled. Therefore there is little reason to expect Star Wars Eclipse or Knights of the Old Republic at the showcase.

Amid terrible news for Star Wars fans, Respawn’s own efforts within the IP could be the success story EA and Disney need. Respawn had huge success with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which led to a sequel that was subsequently given the green light. that sequel, Star Wars Jedi: Survivorhas now received a cinematic teaser and a 2023 release window, making it the top pick for Disney to hit the showcase next month.

Or Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is shown or not, Respawn can also provide some sort of reveal for his Star Wars FPS or his Star Wars strategy game. In addition, the open world of Ubisoft and Lucasfilm Games Star Wars game is also on the table, which makes the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase particularly exciting for Star Wars fans.

Marvel Games may end the showcase with an insomnia announcement

Marvel’s Midnight Sun will appear on the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase, which is surprising as it recently announced its latest delay without a set release date. That being said, Marvel’s Midnight Sun hasn’t had any issues with gameplay sharing lately. The chance of Marvel’s Midnight Sun revealing the new release date next month seems low as it might have been better to announce it along with the delay, but since it’s now expected to be out sometime in early 2023, a release date could still be shared in the showcase.

Instead, the biggest question mark lingering around the showcase is the scourge of Skydance’s Marvel game. Apparently only a “sneak peek” will be given, but it’s also already been confirmed to be an “ensemble” game, meaning a team of superheroes may be playable.

This has led to a lot of speculation about what Marvel membership Skydance will tackle, be it the Fantastic Four, X-Men or some other beloved group. Still, Skydance’s sneak peek may just be a logo teaser and contain nothing substantial, and fans should be prepared to temper their expectations. Marvel’s outing at the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase already looks indomitable with the look of Skydance, but there are other incredibly exciting Marvel games that fans can look forward to at the showcase as well.

Insomniac Games has two foundational titles in the works at Marvel, with Marvel’s Spider Man 2 is expected to be released in 2023 and Marvel’s Wolverine expected later in the future. It is much more likely that Marvel’s Spider Man 2 makes its appearance thanks to the 2023 window, even if only a character is revealed or a short film is offered. Among Star Wars gems, wide Marvel media and other Disney content, the showcase certainly seems worth checking out.
