It’s not 100% confirmed yet, but Williams is expected to retire one day regardless of how things go. The six-time US Open champion has pulled into one of the toughest sections along with us Jabeur, Leylah Fernandez, Anette Kontaveit and Ajla Tomljanovic.
Raducanu has it even worse, with Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Paula Badosa and Danielle Collins lurking. World No.1 Iga Swiatek, who has never made it past the US Open Round of 16, also has her job to do, with Zheng Qinwen and a who’s who of great Americans standing in her way.
The men’s singles also has a very open feeling. Nadal will play his first US Open since 2019 after suffering a abdominal injury, while reigning champion and world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev is likely to be met with hostility, as he often does here.
The Russian shares a section with Nick Kyrgios, who is no stranger to upheaval, while his longtime pal Stefanos Tsitsipas, teenage sensation Carlos Alcaraz and the again fit Matteo Berrettini will also appreciate their chances to go deep. Follow our guide as we explain how to watch a 2022 US Open live stream wherever you are.

US Open 2022 draw
The 2022 US Open draw was a brutal one for Emma Raducanu. The reigning champion shares a quarter with some of the game’s greatest hitters, most notably Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina, No. 6 seed Aryna Sabalenka and hopeful Danielle Collins. In the same quarter, No.4 seed Paula Badosa, Venus Williams, Belinda Bencic, Victoria Azarenka and Karolina Pliskova.

The other horror quarter in women’s singles is contested by the No. 1 Iga Swiatek, the American trio of 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens, the No. 24 seed Amanda Anisimova and the No. 8 Jessica Pegula. Rapidly rising Chinese star Zheng Qinwen is also in the mix and has caused Swiatek a lot of trouble before.
In the men’s draw, Nadal may be a little apprehensive as he has been drawn in the same quarter as number 7 seed Cameron Norrie, the hugely serving John Isner and the hopeful Frances Tiafoe at home. Huge threats can also be uttered by Dennis Shapovalov and Holger Rune, two of the brightest young stars in the game.
If he wants to earn his maiden grand slam here, Stefanos Tsitsipas will have to do it the hard way, with No. 13 seed Matteo Berrettini, No. 10 seed Taylor Fritz and No. 5 seed Casper Ruud among the notable names in his quarter of the draw. It’s where Andy Murray also lurks, as well as promising American youngster Sebastian Korda.
2022 US Open Predictions
She has shown glimpses of quality in recent weeks, but it would be a huge shock if reigning champion Emma Raducanu managed to rekindle the form that gave her US Open glory a year ago. Persistent injuries and a bizarrely brutal approach to a succession of coaches contributed to a disappointing year for the 19-year-old, who will take every game as it comes.
Iga Swiatek is one of the favorites in women’s singles, but hard court isn’t her strongest foundation, and the same can be said of the resurgent Simona Halep, who also has yet to win a hard court major. If Elena Rybakina can replicate the form she showed at Wimbledon, it’s hard to imagine anyone coming close, except perhaps Ons Jabeur, who has come painfully close to the winner of her maiden slam without actually taking that final step. to make.

The men’s singles promises to be exciting after the forced withdrawal of Novak Djokovic. Daniil Medvedev may be the world’s No. 1 and reigning champion, but the feeling persists that he is not quite comfortable being a top dog. Rafael Nadal has beaten the odds to win two slams this year, but what shape is he in after the abdominal tear that kept him out of the Wimbledon semi-final?
And in addition to the top-ranked players, there are any number of players who could feasibly compete for the trophy, not least Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios. Stefanos Tsitsipas is also burning with ambition, while Carlos Alcaraz, Matteo Berrettini and Cameron Norrie feel they are on the brink of winning their first major.
