OverBorder Studios’ upcoming Soulslike action RPG Thymesia has expanded at the start of launch. There must be a lot of time left to see why. Set in a gothic ruined kingdom, paying its price for its past progress, Thymesia looks like an intriguing cross between Bloodborne and Sekiro with several unique ideas mixed in. At the beginning of the launch, we contacted the developers about the game. From here you can understand our interview with the protagonist, Ross Huang.

“Thymesia is a world of evolution and we need players who have extra skills to play with in their basic moves so they can better prepare for the challenges ahead.”

It’s an interesting premise to prevent enemies from destroying enemies and using them as weapons. Can you tell us a bit more about that will work in terms of gameplay? How do the ravens contribute to the battle? Are there also things that play with exploration and traversal?

The ancient tale of a plague-based person using blood in the enemy’s vein, as well as Corvus’ ability to steal disease from the enemy, may inspire, with a macabre act of bloodshed practiced by plague doctors. People think that if there is blood flowing, there is also the virus.

The enemy can sting or burn, even if Corvus inflicts damage on an enemy. It’s the heavyweight part of the fight in Thymesia. You can hit your enemies with claws to absorb the energy or charge your claws to find enemy plague weapons. Corvus automatically transforms into a raven when he uses the raven power within him.

The plague weapons produced by enemies can only be used once, but they can be collected to permanently unlock or even upgrade the plague weapons.

Thymesia is all about variety. We want the player to have additional tools that the player can play with in addition to their basic moves so that they can better prepare for the challenges that await you.

Compared to Souslike’s novels, most audiences have high expectations, especially when it comes to lore and international building. What can we expect from this and the manner in which it is told?

We were very interested in fragmented storytelling. We have done our best to bring to Thymesia all the important storytelling equipment that we believe is essential for a good story: dialogues, item descriptions, notes, books, etc. Thymesia’s story is not as simple as it seems before. We wanted to teach them something. And then draw the players on the table to learn how they play.

How much emphasis does Thymesia put on exploration?

We like Souls’ intertwined level design, and – within the parameters that having a small team allowed us to create interactive maps of our design that made them interesting to explore and with all the key items, stories and secrets that players could find.

We love the intertwined level design that exists in Souls. We tried our best to match the parameters that a small team allowed us to create interesting maps, and the maps we built were fun to explore and with lots of items, stories and secrets to find.

What can players expect from Thymesia in terms of boss and enemy selection? How big is the game world too? How is it structured?

The world has divided the two levels and each has its own unique visual style; bosses, elite enemies and some commune enemies. Each boss has its own move set that offers the player an individual challenge.

How many experiments will Thymesia encourage a particular building variant? What was your approach to this kind of difficult stuff in Thymesia?

There is no difficult terrain in Thymesia; however, we provide them with a set of tools to help them manage this game. We want everyone to take on enemies and challenges based on their requirements.

Several attributes in this game are needed to improve basic values such as the ability to get the character back as much as possible.

As the Corvus levels progress, players spend talent points and they can learn or unlearn the selected talents at checkpoints during the game. Talent influences fundamental movements and playstyle in the Corvus universe. To be very aggressive and close, rethink your tactics or throw a punch. Or to maximize your energy recovery and kill plague weapons all day long.

enemies’ Corvus Reaves plague weapons aren’t all meant to do damage. They have different effects, too many provide you with shield and super armor, others can help by attacking enemies.

Potions are the last ingredient players can use to defeat enemies in Thymesia. You can choose from the basic potion, which heals immediately, less time, a long-term potion that heals overtime, less time and numbs the dose of the drink, or a fast-acting potion that reduces consumption, shortens the volume of use. Potions can be upgraded using the latest ingredients in the world so they add extra weight to their base.

“In Thymesia it is no problem to set up a game. However, we provide a variety of tools to help players succeed. We want to help everyone face enemies and challenges in the best possible way.”

How long does it take to complete Thymesia?

For this kind of genre, the skill of the player really depends on that skill. We really dig deep into the lore and the optional elites we include, the hidden secrets they discover and how they choose to fight the bosses. As for any soul lover, playthroughs can vary so quickly depending on whether players are new to the genre or whether they are veterans who have played everyone!

What frame rate and resolution does the game have on PS5 and Xbox X/S?

We’re targeting 4k on both PS5 and XSX with a dynamic resolution of 60 fps. The XSS has a very similar profile to the XSX with a few changes in aliasing.
