OVerBorder Studio’s Upcoming Soulslike Action RPG Thymesia has built up a lot of momentum as launch approaches, and one look at the game should be enough to tell you why. Set in a gothic ruined kingdom that pays the price of its past claims, Thymesia looks like an intriguing cross between Bloodborne and sekiro with some of his own unique ideas mixed in. Ahead of the upcoming launch, we recently reached out to the developers to learn more about the game. Below you can read our interview with lead game designer Ross Huang.

“Thymesia It’s all about building variety, we want the player to have additional tools to play with in addition to their basic moves so they can better prepare for the challenges ahead.”
Stealing diseases from enemies and using them as weapons is an intriguing premise. Can you tell us more about how that will work in terms of gameplay? Besides, how will the raven play a part in the battle? Is it something that will also play a role in exploration and traversal?
Both the enemy’s health system and Corvus’ ability to steal disease from enemies are inspired by the macabre medieval act of bloodshed by plague doctors. People used to believe that when the blood flows out, so does the virus.
Therefore, whenever he inflicts damage on an enemy, Corvus inflicts wounds on them, and the enemy sends out some of their plague energy into the air. The raven shape represents the portion of the plague energy from combat in Thymesia. You can hit the enemy with claws to absorb the energy or charge your claws to find enemy plague weapons. Corvus automatically transforms into a raven form when using the raven power within him.
The Plague Weapons won from enemies can only be used once, but you can collect Plague Weapon Shards to permanently unlock or even upgrade Plague Weapons.
Thymesia It’s all about building variety, we want the player to have additional tools to play with in addition to their basic moves so they can better prepare for the challenges ahead.
Audiences often have very specific expectations of Souslike titles when it comes to storytelling, especially in terms of knowledge and world building. What can we expect from? Thymesia in those areas and from his way of telling?
We are a big fan of fragmented storytelling. We’ve done our best to bring all the key storytelling devices we believe are essential to a good story to Thymesia: dialogue, item descriptions, notes, books, etc. The story of Thymesia is not as simple as it seems at first glance. We wanted players to discover the story for themselves and stitch together their own version of events as they play the game.
How much emphasis does? Thymesia place to explore?
We love the intertwined level design in souls games, and within the parameters allowed by a small team, we did our best to make the maps we built interesting to explore and with lots of items, story pieces and secrets for players to find.

What should players expect from? Thymesia in terms of his boss fights and hostile variety? Besides, how big is the game’s world? How is it structured?
The world is divided into different levels, each has its own unique visual style, bosses, elite enemies and some shared common enemies. Each boss has their own move sets that present a series of challenges for the player.
How much will experiment? Thymesia encourage when it comes to construction variation? In addition, what is your approach to issues such as difficulty solving problems? Thymesia?
There is no problem getting in thymesia; however, we provide players with a variety of tools to help them progress through the game. We want each player to face the enemies and challenges in a way that suits them best.
There are several stats in the game that you can increase as you level up that affect basic values like health points, attack power, bullying energy, etc.
As Corvus level up, players gain talent points to spend, and they can acquire or unlearn selected talents at checkpoints throughout the game. Talents can greatly influence Corvus’ basic moves and playstyle. You can choose to be very aggressive and up close, or you can do some kind of hit-and-run style, or you can maximize your energy recovery and use plague weapons throughout the day.
The plague weapons Corvus takes from enemies aren’t all just for dealing damage, they also have different effects – some provide you with shields and super armor, others can help by stunning enemies.
Potions are the last ingredient players can use to defeat enemies in Thymesia. You can choose from a basic potion, which heals immediately but takes time to drink, a long-term potion that heals overtime but heals more, or a fast-acting potion, which heals less but shortens the drink time and increases the amount used. Potions can also be upgraded with ingredients found around the world, giving them additional effects on top of their basic healing.

Approximately how long does an average playthrough take? Thymesia to be?
For this kind of genre, it really depends on the skill of the player. For example, how deep they dig into the knowledge, the optional elites they include, hidden secrets they discover, and how they choose to fight the bosses. As with all Souls likes, playthroughs can vary quite a bit depending on whether players are new to the genre or are veterans who have played everyone!
What frame rate and resolution will the game target on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S?
We’re targeting 4k on both PS5 and XSX with a dynamic resolution of 60 fps. The XSS has a very similar profile to XSX, just with some changes in anti-aliasing.
