The following article contains spoilers for: the boys season 3.

After an exciting season finale, the boys is taking a break for what is sure to be another action-packed round when Season 4 comes to Amazon Prime Video. However, the power dynamics in the show have changed forever, and so has the future and what it may have in store for its protagonists.

Most notably, The Boys got their hands on a powerful original recipe Compound V and its V24 variety. This should briefly tip the scales in their favor, even if the gang failed to capitalize and eventually turned against their sack bait, Soldier Boy. The biggest takeaways from that were Ryan finally embracing his biological father, Homelander finally revealing himself as the murderous sociopath he is to the world, as well as Victoria Neuman setting herself up for the White House. But ultimately, what does this all mean? the boys, and where is the series headed?

The seven is more like the three

It goes without saying that the boys has plenty of cartoon characters waiting on the sidelines to join the cast at any time. With the Seven now reduced to Homelander, The Deep and a modified A-Train, recruiting new supes has never been more necessary. Specifically, supes like Tek Knight, Mr. Marathon and Jack From Jupiter have already been mentioned in the series. These figures have a higher chance of hopping on board, especially if Homelander has to call on some former allies as the world turns against him.

While Black Noir is guaranteed to come back and The Deep may be easier to manipulate, even the A-Train actor has suggested that the character may be redeemed, meaning he could become a victim or just one defector from the supergroup. At least, if CEO Homelander still sees The Seven as an important concept, because his interests may now lie elsewhere.

The Homelander on campaign

the boys showrunner, Eric Kripke, was not shy about the political ideals Homelander and his fans represent, and the superhero has adopted a more outspoken and combative style in his speech as the series progresses. Link that with the boys comic strip, where Homelander ends up storming the White House, it looks like the series is finally trying to get there.

While her comic book counterpart is more of a useful fool, Victoria Neuman is a shrewd strategist, and the way she’s leveraged her fragile alliance with Homelander will be critical now that she’s become The Boys’ biggest target. Expect Dakota Bob to win his run to the White House but get knocked out by the head popper pretty quickly. And rest assured, Homelander stands to gain political favors or pure constitutional powers from that relationship.

It’s all about family

Parental relationships are incredibly important in the boys, especially with the addition of Ryan as Homelander’s son, an all-new character capable of “bringing out the best” in his father. Ryan has been pivotal to all three season finales, so expect that trend to continue. However, there could be a twist that he could eventually turn on his father after getting closer to him, and the series could even choose the young boy to kill Homelander himself.

Ryan is the main driver behind Billy Butcher’s desire to kill Homelander. He’s let Ryan down, and now that he’s running out of time, he’d better seize his chance if he ever wants to kill the most powerful supe on Earth.

Soldier Boy

Jensen Ackles was one of the best things about the boys third season, so he is clearly sought after by fans and writers. However, now that Soldier Boy is an asset to the government, he can become a bargaining chip or a political chess piece over which Victoria and Mallory fight.

His body is infused with the Russian BCL Red, which also makes him a prime candidate for sure-related experiments. While he may not be nearly as important in the comics, the sole presence of Soldier Boy really raised the stakes for everyone in season three, so count on him waking up from his slumber.

Butcher takes matters into his own hands

After being sentenced to death by doctors, Butcher lives on borrowed time. So it wouldn’t be strange to see him return to the permanent Compound V to save his deteriorating body, or at least buy some extra time to fulfill his one true mission: to kill Homelander. That sense of urgency is likely to escalate as Homelander gains the political power he’s recently cultivated and tends to lead to clashes with Starlight and Hughie.

although the boys series is in most cases much tamer than the comics (eg Herogasm), desperate times call for desperate measures. Don’t expect a souped-up Butcher to kill all The Boys, but tensions will mount once Homelander and Neuman’s plan gets the ball rolling.

the boys is available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
