Living in the land of crossplay and rollback

Evo 2022 was a spectacular return from its years away as a unique event filled with top competitors from around the world, crazy tournaments and just a bunch of people who love fighting games.

Even the developers seem to have stepped up their announcement game this year, and there are plenty of big reveals that you could have missed if you’d just looked away from the action for a few minutes.

That’s why we want to give you all a quick summary and review of all the big fighting game announcements from last weekend.

Just about every company that had a title on Evo’s mainstage had something important to show, and even some of the ones that didn’t make the event exciting yet.

So let’s start at the beginning and work our way forward.

No one has Marvel vs. Capcom 2 has officially been available to buy since the remaster was pulled from digital stores in 2013, but that’s about to change.

Arcade1UP has announced that they will be releasing a special MvC2 cabinet later this year.

In addition, the home arcade system will feature a total of 8 games between MvC2, Marvel vs. Capcom, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, X Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men: Children of the ATOM, X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse and Marvel Super Heroes in War of the Gems.

Atlus listened to fan feedback and promised to add rollback netcode to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax earlier this year.

After a while of silence, they dropped the reveal that Ultimax’s rollback update is now available for PlayStation and PC players.

The indie fighting game Umbral Core was first revealed earlier this summer and the developers released a teaser trailer for the upcoming title to show off the early gameplay and talk about some of the details.

This dark and atmospheric fighter will release an open alpha later this year, as well as a Kickstarter to help them achieve their full vision.

During their Evo panel, Arc System Works unveiled the content roadmap for the second season of Guilty Gear Strive.

A crossplay beta test between PlayStation and PC players is slated to release sometime this fall, followed by the full update shortly after.

Guilty Gear has one more DLC character to be released this fall this year, with the remaining fighters set to arrive sometime in 2023.

A new balance patch is also planned to be launched sometime during the winter season.

One of the more unexpected announcements this weekend came on SNK’s Evo panel, where the developers said the rollback netcode is on the way for most versions of 2019 Samurai Shodown — a feature the community has been asking for since its original release. .

That rollback update is coming sometime around spring 2023.

SNK also had another big quality of life improvement for The King of Fighters 15, with the title set to continue to be played cross-platform between Xbox, PlayStation and PC in 2023 as well.

The Skullgirls developers have announced that Marie will be the last DLC character to come to the 2nd Encore Season Pass after Black Dahlia.

Marie was originally included as the game’s boss character and holder of the Skull Heart, but she will finally become a playable roster member sometime in 2023.

In the midst of their $100,000 Evo side tournament, Warner Bros. a look at the Season 1 roadmap with content for MultiVersus.

As previously announced, Rick and Morty will come to the game as 2 separate characters, and the official Season 1 launch will also bring with it MultiVersus’ online ranked mode and a classic arcade mode.

Players can also get additional cosmetic items such as Lebron James as Robin and Valkyrie Bugs Bunny costumes.

No release date has been set for the start of MVS Season 1, but you can find out more here.

Following their Evo finale, Bandai Namco has finally announced that Dragon Ball FighterZ will indeed receive a rollback netcode update, but there are a few caveats.

First, many players will have to upgrade their current copies of DBFZ as the rollback patch is only coming to the newly announced PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of the game and PC.

In addition, the content support for DBFZ has officially ended after 4 years and the developers are not planning any more balance patches either.

Not content with just their previous SamSho and crossplay announcements, SNK also brought a peek at Team Samurai for KOF15, made up of Samurai Shodown characters Haohmaru, Nakoruru and Darli Dagger.

The first 2 characters of Season 2 were also revealed as Shingo Yabuki plus Kim Kaphwan, and they will be released in early 2023.

For a final surprise, SNK dropped the bomb that a brand new Fatal Fury/Garou title has officially been green-lit and has presumably started production.

There hasn’t been a new entry in the iconic franchise since Garou: Mark of the Wolves came out all the way back in 2000.

They only showed a single image of the project, which seems to imply that Rock Howard will take over his protagonist status from the last Garou.

Bandai Namco teased the first-ever glimpse of their next-generation Tekken project after the Tekken 7 Evo finals.

It only featured a short shot of a highly detailed Kazuya Mishima, and we don’t know yet if the game will indeed be Tekken 8 or something else.

Tekken 7 will also receive some additional developer support with a new battle update coming on August 17 to rebalance the cast and add some more features to the gameplay.

While you may have seen them elsewhere, Capcom has officially announced that newcomer Kimberly and Street Fighter 4 favorite Juri Han are playable characters in Street Fighter 6.

Both world fighters received slick new trailers that gave a taste of what their gameplay will offer in Street Fighter 6.

Tasty Steve and James Chen were also revealed as one of the in-game commentators in Street Fighter 6.

Guilty Gear Strive officially closed Evo this year with the biggest in-game tournament the series has ever seen, and Arc System Works had one last surprise for everyone.

The developers dropped Bridget’s gameplay trailer as the first DLC character of Strive Season 2 with plenty of yo-yos and teddy bears.

Oh, and you can now play as the classic Guilty Gear fighter.
