Spider-Man tokens are the main currency in the game, broken down into six types that you can earn by completing a wide variety of activities as you make your way through New York. Whether you want to hunt collectible backpacks, snap some touristy shots, or take down bad guys, you can earn tokens for just about anything.
You can then use these to buy one of the many Spider-Man suits (opens in new tab), create mods with powerful skills or build gadgets that give you an edge in battle. In fact, if you’re playing on one of the harder difficulties and don’t want battles to turn into a slog, it’s a given that you’ll want to grab all sorts of tokens to improve your suit and give you more options when dealing with new ones. criminal element of York.
In this Spider-Man token guide, I’ll explain each way to get the game’s six token types so you can make all the upgrades you want. It’s worth noting that as you progress through the main story, you’ll unlock more ways to earn tokens, especially regarding the Investigation, Base, Crime, and Challenge types.
How to get backpack tokens

These are some of the first tokens you will encounter in Spider-Man and they are easy to collect. Once you’ve completed the quest to help Yuri repair the guard tower and grab Peter’s first backpack, markers will appear all over New York indicating their locations. Just find one and grab it to earn a backpack token and a memento from Spider-Man’s past. If you manage to collect all 55, you’ll get the Homemade Suit from Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Getting Landmark Tokens

This is another token type that you unlock early next to the camera. To get one of these tokens, go to a landmark indicated on your map by the little building symbol, get out your camera and take a picture of it. You know you’re in the right place because the camera’s reticle says “subject in focus”. There are also secret photos (opens in new tab) which requires you to take photos of 50 hidden places in New York, but these unlock the ESU suit instead of awarding tokens.
Get Research Tokens

Research Tokens come from four separate resources that are unlocked throughout the game. The first is to complete circuit puzzles (opens in new tab) and spectrographs (opens in new tab) in Octavius Labs. Each time you return during the main quest, more of these will be unlocked, and completing all ten of them will give you a Research Token bonus.
Once you complete the main mission “Harry’s Passion Project” you will also unlock research stations in the city marked with a microscope icon; complete the challenges at each to get more tokens. Finally, once the “Helping Howard” side quest unlocks near FEAST, you can find lost pigeons all over New York, and each catch will give you Research Tokens.
How to get basic tokens

You get basic tokens by taking down criminal strongholds and fighting wave after wave of enemies. You’ll unlock your first one early on when you visit the Fisk Construction Site as part of the main mission, but later on you’ll also be able to take out Demon Warehouses, as well as Sable Outposts and Prisoner Camps. Each base you complete will earn you base tokens.
How to get crime coins

Crime tokens are the only ones not on your main card. Instead, you’ll want to meander around town looking for nearby events. It shouldn’t take long to see a red triangle with an exclamation mark on your minimap or your hud; these are crimes. Go to the symbol and complete the objective to earn crime tokens. The crimes you will encounter in New York range from kidnapping, robbery, to vehicle theft, and many more such as Sable ambushes.
Get Challenge Tokens

Challenge Tokens are the last to unlock in the game and you will have to wait until you find Standish in the main story. Yuri will contact you about a mysterious box on a roof in Hell’s Kitchen. Go there to open it and the mysterious Taskmaster will set you challenges in the city. These range from stealth to disarming bombs to fighting enemies, and your performance determines how many Challenge Tokens you earn. Later in the story, Taskmaster will contact you again and unlock even more challenges.
