Saints Row (2022) is the highly anticipated reboot of the crime-laden sandbox series. While players can absolutely enjoy wreaking havoc solo in Santo Ileso, the experience can be much more fun with a friend. After debuting in 2006, the franchise quickly and hilariously embraced multiplayer with co-op and has become a staple of Volition’s physics playground with subsequent releases.
From setting up co-op to pranking your partner, if you want to embrace the unique destruction of Saints Row with a friend, here’s everything you need to know about multiplayer in the latest installment.
Setting up co-op in Saints Row (2022)

Saints Row (2022) supports 2 player co-op. You and another player are free to tackle critical story missions, hustle, or explore the Las Vegas-inspired streets of Santo Ileso. Unfortunately, this is not a feature that is unlocked immediately, and there are a few steps you need to complete to enable online multiplayer.
- Before you start co-op, both players must have completed the MAKE RENTALS self-study assignment series.
- Once MAKE RENTALS is over and both players are no longer in an active missionthe host player can open his world for multiplayer.
- Select from the main menu Co-op campaign.
- To elect Host game.
- Select the save what you want to use.
- Once loaded into the game, open the options menu and choose Cooperative.
- Select Invite a friend and choose your requested co-op partner.
- Do you have an invitee accept your request within the game.
- Make sure you are not in the menus when your multiplayer ally tries to enter the game, or they will get stuck in a “waiting for host” message.
- Enjoy your co-op shenanigans.
Currently Saints Row (2022) is full of unfortunate bugs. In our experience, this makes playing a game with a friend much more challenging than it needs to be. If you find that these steps don’t work, restart the game and accept the EULA again from the main menu. After several attempts, we were able to establish multiplayer connections repeatedly. It’s also worth noting that Saints Row doesn’t support crossplay, so you’ll need to be on the same platform as your co-op partner.
How to Prank Your Partner in Saints Row (2022)

One crazy feature exclusive to online co-op in Saints Row (2022) is pranks. By completing specific challenges, you can enable a series of wacky, gameplay-altering hijinks. While you have the option to disable jokes, we strongly recommend that you leave them implemented during your multiplayer sessions in Saints Row.
- Before organizing a co-op game, make sure that both players: Jokes activated.
- To do this, open the options menu and select Cooperative.
- Choose from here Co-op Settings.
- move over jokes and enable the slider.
- Once in a multiplayer session, a prank challenge will appear in the top right corner of the screen.
- Complete the designated challenge.
- After the challenge is completed, press left on the D-pad will provoke a joke on your partner.
We are still discovering the magnitude of the jokes in Saints Row. Yet we have already witnessed outrageous scenarios in which our allies were transformed into floating toilets with assault rifles. If you want to up the sandbox nonsense of this crime sniper, pranks seem like an excellent means of doing it.
How does progression work in Saints Row multiplayer?

Much of Saints Row (2022) is designed to build your own criminal empire. With the freedom to choose how and where your shady venture expands, it’s understandable that not all progress is shared between co-op partners. However, a vast majority of the challenges and collectibles you complete when playing with a friend carry over to your own game.
The completion of the main story mission is tied to the host’s gameplay, but the solution of side activities such as insurance fraud is shared. You can also earn money, gain experience and unlock new skills while playing in co-op. And for players concerned about losing their custom rides in multiplayer, fear not. Guests can access their entire garage from the host’s game. Saints Row may not be one of the best games on Xbox, but the overall progress in co-op is commendable.
