August 17 Update: The Standalone PS5 digital edition console is back in stock at Playstation Direct as argos and smyth’s toys drop the standalone disc edition console in stores nationwide. PS5 bundles are also available from Game, Curries, EEthe BT store, Terribly, The game collection, E-buyer, Studio, ShopTo, AO and Scan. Read on for more information.
Since its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been ridiculously hard to get your hands on. Supply chain problems due to the coronavirus pandemic have nearly brought production of Sony’s latest games console to a standstill.
Fortunately, the stock situation has improved a lot in recent months, with PS5 bundles available in at least one store since the end of April. Game and the BT Shop, plus several independent retailers such as The Game Collection and Scan, continue to lead the way.
This avalanche of console additions continued through July, and so far it looks like the good news will continue into August and September. But while restocking is becoming more common, buying a console on its own is still a challenge, with retailers preferring to stock up on bundles over the standalone console – which sell out in the blink of an eye. We only started seeing digital console bundles in stores last month, but even those have since dried up.

Want a PS5 with an extra controller and Horizon Forbidden West?
If you buy the PS5 Disc Edition console with an extra controller and Horizon Forbidden West, then you have your absolute choice of retailers. This is the bundle that most retailers are currently selling.
The BT Shop has it for the cheapest price – £549.97, but of course you have to be a BT Broadband customer or you won’t get an access code.
AO sells this bundle for £559, Very sells it for £559.98 and ShopTo for £559.85. Game also sells this bundle for £559.98, but you throw in a PlayStation T-shirt too – if you want one.
EE has pushed the price of this bundle up heavily, and it will cost you a dazzling £582, so we’d avoid buying it from EE if you can (which you should, considering it’s in stock at so many other retailers).

Smyths Toys only complements the PS5 disc edition console
Smyths Toys also just completed the standalone disc edition console. Like Argos, it’s in-store only, so you’ll need to reserve a console and pick it up from your local store. Not every store has stock available, so check the list and find the closest one – some stores are already sold out. It costs €449.99.

Argos also stocks the standalone PS5 disc edition console
Argos just completed the standalone disc edition console. This is a regional drop so you’ll need to pick it up at your local branch, and not every store has it in stock, but if you want a console ASAP, Argos is the best place to pick one up.
Argos and PlayStation Direct are currently the only two retailers to sell the PS5 disc edition console (£449.99, Argos.co.uk) alone, with no accessories or extra games.

Game has the best PS5 bundle deal we’ve ever seen
This is the best bundle deal you’ll find on the PS5 Disc Edition console and it undercuts the official Horizon Forbidden West bundle for 10 euros. For £489.98 Game gives you the PS5 disc version console, Horizon Forbidden West and it will put in a case for your controller for good luck.
It’s going to be hard to find a deal like this as we’ve never seen one like this since we started stocking the PS5 a year and a half ago. There are other bundles available if they don’t interest you (although they really should).

The PS5 is in stock at Currys, with 14 bundles to choose from
There are a whopping 14 PS5 bundles in stock at Currys, but none of them are cheap. The cheapest costs £629 – and that’s still the second most expensive bundle currently available at any retailer with the console in stock. What do you get for €629?
You get the PS5 Disc Edition console with: Horizon Forbidden Westa copy of Lego Star Wars and a SteelSeries gaming headset. Is it worth it? You can get a PS5 disc edition bundle with Forbidden West for £499.99 at various retailers now, Lego Star Wars costs £44.99 and a SteelSeries arctis headset costs £174.99. That means that if you buy this bundle, you save a total of €90.

The standalone PS5 disc and digital edition console is in stock at PS Direct
Looking for the standalone PS5 digital edition console or the standalone PS5 disc edition console? You are lucky! PS Direct has both in stock and you don’t want to miss out. The PS5 digital edition console hasn’t been restocked by any retailer since the end of May, and it’s unlikely to be for a few more months when they sell out.
Why is it so popular? Because it costs £359.99 – that’s £90 cheaper than the standalone disc edition console, plus it’s exactly the same as the disc edition console, just without the disc drive. If you want the disc edition model, that’s in stock too.
You’ll need your PSN credentials (create an account if you don’t already have one) and your credit card details to hand.

Goooooooood tomorrow PS5 fighters and welcome back to The independent‘s PS5 restock live blog. We’ve only had one new drop so far this week, but it was a juicy one. Yesterday morning, PlayStation Direct had another PS5 add-on and the store has finally put the standalone console with digital edition, as well as the standalone console with disc edition, back on sale.

The £489.98 bundle available from Game is still the best value deal we’ve seen in a while, so it’s definitely worth buying while it’s still there.

Can you play PS4 games on the PS5?
You sure can! The PS5 can play your existing library of PS4 games, but it should be noted that the digital edition of the console is not disc compatible due to the lack of a disc drive.

Collaboration ‘FIFA 23’ and Marvel announced
If you missed the news yesterday, EA Sports and Marvel Entertainment announced a new partnership ahead of the FIFA 23 release that will see a new cast of FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) Heroes, reimagined and inspired by Marvel Comics.
The partnership between the two entertainment giants will bring some of the game’s favorite players to the field and celebrate their larger-than-life cult hero status with the help of Marvel’s artists.
If you’re hoping to pick up a premium bundle of the game, then the “Ultimate Edition” will include a few perks for players who pick up the game before it comes out. The Ultimate Edition not only gives you double entitlement to next-gen and last-gen versions of FIFA 23however, if you purchase a bundle before August 21, 2022, you will also be entitled to a limited-time FIFA World Cup Hero Player Item in FIFA Ultimate Team, which will be available on November 11.
