On the hunt for the next-gen console? We’ve got you covered

Update August 5: The PS5 is still in stock at argos, Game, Terribly, Curries, Hughes, Studio, EE and Scan. PS5 Digital Edition Bundles are also in stock at the BT store, which also includes disc edition bundles. Read on for more information.

Since its launch in 2020, the PlayStation 5 has been ridiculously hard to get your hands on. Supply chain problems due to the coronavirus pandemic have nearly brought production of Sony’s latest games console to a standstill.

Fortunately, the stock situation has improved a lot in recent months, with PS5 bundles available in at least one store since the end of April. Game and the BT Shop, plus several independent retailers such as The Game Collection and Scan have continued to lead the way.

This avalanche of console additions continued into July, and we expect it to continue to be widely stocked through August and September. But while restocks are more common, buying a console on its own is still a challenge, with retailers preferring to restock bundles over the standalone console – those sell out in the blink of an eye. We only started seeing digital console bundles in stores last month, but even those have since dried up.

If you’re still looking for the elusive PlayStation 5, we’ve got one tip for you: sit down on this live blog and pay attention to your real-time alerts. Our goal is to ensure you a next-generation machine, whether that’s a bundle, or a standalone digital edition disc or console, and provide you with the details on the best games and accessories to buy alongside your new console plus the latest game reviews.

Currys currently has nine PS5 bundles in stock

Currys has put in a great performance over the past few weeks. At one point, we saw 13 different PS5 bundles in stock at once, and while this has now dropped to nine bundles, it’s still great news for PS5 shoppers.

That said, these aren’t the cheapest PS5 bundles out there. Instead of a console and game for around £500, the Currys bundles start at £649 and go up to £729.

The cheaper of these includes a PS5 disc edition console with Horizon Forbidden West, Lego Star Warsa second Dualsense controller and a 1TB storage drive.

The most expensive also includes the console, games and controller, but also throws in Gran Turismo 7 and a Steelseries gaming headset.

In addition, Very is selling the same bundle but adding a second Dualsense controller for a total of £559.98.

Both are available to pre-order now, but Very is working on a pre-order system and deliveries aren’t due until August 28.
