After the release of the PlayStation 5 in November 2020, many Sony fans had praise and praise for the console’s next-gen capabilities. The new DualSense controller has been the main focus for many players, given the introduction of features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, giving players a whole new experience. While this was in place, there were also calls for improvements in multiple different areas of the console.
As Sony continues its efforts to provide the best gaming experience possible, fans also continue to share their own feedback and thoughts on the changes needed to bring the console to its full potential.
8 Themes and interactivity on the home screen
Since the launch of the console, themes and custom wallpapers have not been an option for owners to use, only the wallpapers of games selected on the screen. Given the previous two generations of PlayStation 3 and 4, fans expected these features to be a requirement.
Themes also came in batches with their own menu sound effects and music, but as things stand, it remains the default. Sony hasn’t commented yet on why this feature isn’t available, but PS5 owners will continue to hope for possible changes related to custom features.
7 Discord streaming function
As Sony announced a partnership that will see Discord’s integration with the PS5, fans will be aware of the potential of Discord’s streaming services available on PC within its servers. Features like Discord Nitro allow users to stream at 1080p video quality at up to 60 frames per second, similar to what the PS5 is capable of when streaming on platforms like YouTube.
The introduction of this service gives players the ability to connect with friends who may not own the console, or even branch to different servers to suit their tastes. If Sony can run this particular service within their deal with Discord, it will definitely give fans another advantage when using the console.
6 Fast resume
Looking at features like fast loading times and letting players pick up where they left off, fast resume is a tool that allows gamers to do just that. Unfortunately for PlayStation owners, this is only available on Microsoft’s next-gen consoles Xbox Series X and S.
Many fans will know how useful this is, as it introduces flexibility and the safety net of switching applications without fear of losing progress. This is entirely possible for Sony to implement in upcoming updates, given how powerful the console is.
5 Make first boot permanent
During the console’s initial startup for new owners, there would be a special animation that would appear a few seconds before the player was prompted to plug in their controller. Fans will be familiar with the iconic startup animations for PS1, PS2, and PS3.
It would be beneficial to keep this animation or at least give owners the option to turn the issue on or off, while also giving the current generation of the PlayStation a historic feature.
4 Ability to play music over any game
In certain games such as The last of us part 2, the PS5 stops the player from being able to play its own music, either through Spotify or through the use of the media player. Fans who have completed games as such and want to run fast or rather play something above their gaming activity may find this frustrating.
Whether it’s up to the developers or Sony itself, a change would be needed here to give owners the freedom to choose and get another addition in terms of accessibility.
3 Dedicated internet browser
Unlike the PS4, the new console currently does not have the ability to browse the web through a dedicated application. The user has to go through the settings in the user manual for the default browser for web surfing to appear.
Despite this, it is still an unreliable way for owners to access the internet, especially when fans are unfamiliar with the tutorials in which they access the browser. The positive sign is that this is indeed present on the system, showing that Sony plans to add an application as a feature in a future update, giving users the freedom to browse the web whenever they want.

1 Improve voice commands
Given that the voice command feature is still in beta, it’s inevitable that Sony will improve it. From the language to more recognizable user commands, this tool needs an overhaul to provide the best and most accessible voice command feature.
Not only will this help current owners who may need to rely on such features, but it will also encourage those who have not yet purchased the console to do so, as it will suit their needs if needed.
