Overwatch 2 is coming and because it supports full cross-progression no matter where you choose to play, the account system will of course work a little differently compared to the original game. You want to merge your accounts for Overwatch 2 so that you can take advantage of the cross-progression system.
If you don’t know how this will work, don’t worry, we’re here to help. Here’s how to merge your accounts so you’re all set for the cross-progression future that awaits in Overwatch 2.
Why do I need to merge my accounts in Overwatch 2?
Overwatch 2 uses a new unified cross-progression system, allowing players to take their progress with them wherever they go. This means that it doesn’t matter if you play on Xbox, PlayStation, PC or Nintendo Switch, you’re making progress. However, for this system to work, this account merger must take place. Overwatch 2 requires a Battle.net account to play, so there’s no other option.
How to merge accounts in Overwatch 2
If you’re not sure how to get started with this progression, don’t worry, as it’s relatively easy, and Blizzard Entertainment has provided helpful information about the process. You link your console accounts to your Battle.net account. Of course, this isn’t necessary if you’re only playing on PC, but if you’re playing on console, you’ll need to go through this process.
It is important to note that you can only link a console account per platform to your Battle.net account to transfer progress. For example, you can link your Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo profiles to your Battle.net account, but not three separate Xbox profiles.
Follow these directions carefully, you only have one chance to merge each console account with your Battle.net account. If you ever decide to unlink a console account after Overwatch 2 launches, there will be a one-year wait before you can link another account.
1. Start Overwatch on your console.
2. Make sure you sign in with the correct profile.
3. If you haven’t already your Battle.net account already linked to your console profile, you can do this now. If you have already linked your Battle.net account, go to step 8.
4. To link your Battle.net account, select Options.
5. Scroll through until you find the Link account tab.
6. Follow the instructions and scan the QR code with your mobile device.
7. Log in or create your Battle.net account.
8. With your console profile linked to your Battle.net account, select Merge Account on the main menu.
9. Verify the account and console profile are both correct, then confirm accountas shown in the sample image below.
10. You have to repeat this for any console account that you want to use to play Overwatch 2.
If you’ve followed all the steps correctly, that’s it, you’re good to go! Prior to the launch of Overwatch 2, Blizzard Entertainment will use the account merging information to migrate everything as part of the process for Overwatch 2 to replace the original Overwatch.
