NBA 2K23 is this year’s edition of the basketball game developed by Visual Concepts. Despite the complete lack of competition in the basketball simulation genre since EA discontinued the NBA Live series (the last entry was NBA Live 19), the game improves in various ways every year, and NBA 2K23 is no different.

Gameplay mechanics
This year’s episode features the return of the Jordan Challenge mode, more than a decade since its last appearance. NBA2K23 players will experience 15 key moments in Michael Jordan’s career, from the 1982 NCAA National Championship to the 1998 NBA Finals. There will also be era-appropriate changes, such as a heavier focus on the post and midrange. game and rework the transition game, including tighter transition lanes and more players going to the basket with a number advantage.
Visual Concepts also recently detailed the general gameplay improvements planned for this iteration. On next-generation consoles (the PC is unfortunately still left behind alongside PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch), player AI offers improved ball handling, pick-and-roll execution, defensive tendencies, and coaching decisions.
Shooting attributes have been added across all platforms, giving each signature jump shot its own unique shooting stats that help determine effectiveness. The developers have also added five new shots meters, and 15 more will be unlocked through Seasons over the course of the year.
The defense has also improved. Blocks are tuned to a more realistic level, leading to more predictable results, with the right players making the right stops when their block attempts are timed correctly. Visual Concepts also claims a marked improvement in ball protection for good dunkers and much more.
Gamemakers aren’t left out with new gesture combos for both shooting and handling. A new concept has been introduced to prevent overdribbling: players have three Adrenaline Boosts per possession, and once those are gone after a hard start or explosive sprint launch, there is a significant decrease in speed and deceleration for the rest of the possession.
The revamped Team Takeover system in NBA 2K23 works as a collaborative effort with the entire team sharing a single yard.
