While awaiting the official ratings of NBA 2K23 players, the latest opus of the famous basketball simulation continues its communication campaign by presenting the new features in dribbles and drabs. While none of them had challenged us so far, Visual Concept now presents a new mode that will appeal to all NBA fans.
Relive the great times of the Great League in MyNBA Eras mode
The NBA is a league with an incredibly rich history, both on and off the field. Many basketball fans attach great importance to the teams that have marked the history of the sport from the 1950s to the present.
NBA 2K has spanned historic teams for over 10 years, but also offered historic game modes in NBA 2K11 with the Jordan Challenge and then in NBA 2K12 with NBA’s Greatest. Abandoned in the following works, these modes were not completely forgotten by 2K in the end, since it is in NBA 2K23 that the new MyNBA Eras mode will be offered.
In this mode, players can immerse themselves in the greatest eras of the Great League and rewrite history there by running the club in their own way. In particular, Erick Boenisch, executive producer and veteran at Visual Concepts:
“We implemented some features that we talked about during my career at developer Visual Concepts. This year we ask our fans, “What if you could turn back time and change the course of NBA history? »
With MyNBA Eras, you can start in the era of your choice from the following four:
>> The Magic vs. Bird era (1980)
>> The Jordan Era (1990)
>> The Kobe era (2000s)
>> Modern times (2010)
Each era will be true to reality and the work done at this level seems significant. From the floors to the commentators, including the sponsors, the reproduction of the rooms or the most eccentric details, each era has been transcribed almost perfectly to provide an unprecedented immersion.
In terms of gameplay, MyNBA Eras is similar to what the MyLeague mode has been offering for several years, but seems to have developed the concept even further.
“Total control, unlike anything we’ve done in this mode so far. You can say, “No, no, no, I don’t want the Hornets to move between the eight cities they’ve played in for five years. You can refuse the SuperSonics move from Seattle to Oklahoma City in 2008. »
It would be difficult to list all the details that have been taken into account between each era, but here are some:
- Rotation of realist commentators over time (notably Mike Fratello and Kevin Harlan between 1983 and 2000).
- Adaptation of rules, strategies and playing styles according to the times.
- Reproduction of period rooms and their realistic evolution.
- Change from two to three umpires in 1988-1989.
- Reproduction of the All-Star Games between 1997 and 2002 with the players wearing their team shirts.
- Realistic evolution of team finances and contract scale over time
According to Erick Boenisch, the list is still long, but the realization of such research bears witness to the desire to offer a mode intended for pure NBA fans.
“Making a roster for each year, re-evaluating the players, doing the badges, creating draft classes, putting the badges on those players, testing their potential, making sure they develop well – that’s a lot of work. Sitting there, tweaking and tweaking, and simulating and tweaking, and simulating again, that’s an incredible amount of work.
I am very, very proud of what the team has achieved. And I am convinced that this is exactly what our audience has been asking for for so many years. »
The presentation of this mode will certainly not leave any NBA fan indifferent, knowing that Visual Concepts has not offered such an innovation in NBA 2K for a long time. The initial feedback is also very positive after the announcement. 2K may have an innovative mode on hand that will help the license win back the hearts of basketball fans who are slowly starting to leave NBA 2K due to its redundancy and still questionable business model.
