Naruto is one of the most popular shonen anime ever made. The exploits of the eponymous ninja as he strives to gain the approval of everyone in the Leaf Village make for a great underdog story. This Jinchuriki wants to be the Hokage and proves himself in this regard by acquiring great powers and beating tough opponents time and time again.

For the most part, series writer Kishimoto tries to write antagonists that aren’t actually bad and have some motivations for their misguided actions. However, there are times when certain characters are introduced who are just so morally corrupt that it’s hard to justify their actions. Here are some of the most gruesome characters in Naruto which should not be redeemed, even though the series itself gives some solid reasoning for it.

GAMERANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

10 Orochimaru

Orochimaru is the first real villain to appear in the series, going so far as to kill the Third Hokage in his first serious fight in the series. He is also responsible for conducting several inhumane experiments on unwilling subjects.

His horrific actions never stop, even after the series tries to wash away his crimes by making him somewhat helpful towards the end of the fourth Shinobi World War. The sheer brutality of Orochimaru’s crimes makes him one of the worst characters in Naruto by a country mile.

9 Madara Uchiha

Madara is one of the most powerful members of the Uchiha clan and one of the leaders of the clan for the longest time. He was also prone to conflict and clashed with Hashirama several times about how to run the village.

Even when he was near death, he still started another plan that would supposedly annex the world and force it to do its bidding. Fortunately, Naruto and Sasuke were there to save the day when it mattered most.

8 Obito Uchiha

Another member of the Uchiha clan comes here in the form of Obito. The death of his love led him down a dark path, but his actions are still unforgivable.

He is the reason why Naruto had no parents and was exiled by the village for being a Jinchuriki. His countless vicious actions also led to the deaths of many innocents, and even his final sacrifice will not wash away Obito’s sins.

7 Itachi Uchiha

Itachi rounds off the last member of the Uchiha trio mentioned in this list. This is easily the most controversial entry here, especially since most people praised Itachi’s sacrifice out of the love he had for his brother.

However, that doesn’t make it right to slaughter an entire clan you were a big part of! To make matters worse, he also traumatized his brother and sent him down a path of hatred, instead of trying to save him and give him the love he deserved.

6 Kisame Hoshigaki

Kisame is a bloodthirsty and murderous swordsman who will stop at nothing to satisfy both his bloodlust and Samehada’s. He makes a point of making his opponents cruel by brutally tearing them apart with either Samehada’s blade or his own techniques.

Kisame has killed many people and does not regret his actions at all. He may be a fascinating character… but he is also evil to the core and cannot be exchanged for his actions anyway.

5 Danzo Shimura

The thirst for power can erode the moral compass of many people, and Danzo is an example of this. This pretender to the title Hokage is one of the most frustrating characters to watch in the entire show.

Watching Sasuk take him down once and for all was definitely a treat, and even a neat little flashback didn’t make anyone sympathize with this character. Danzo’s death was a celebration, especially since his reputation was also ruined after the events of the Five Kage Summit.

4 Kabuto Yakushi

Kabuto seemed like nothing more than an underachieving student when he appeared during the Chunin exams. However, it turned out that he was a spy working for Orochimaru, even absorbing some of his cells after his master supposedly died.

He has long been a thorn in the side of the ninja world, even resurrecting the corpses that made the Fourth Shinobi World War such an emotional affair for many people. It was only through the enormous efforts of Izanami that this villain finally saw the error of his ways, which came a little too late for fans who had already made their conclusions regarding this character’s morals.

3 hidan

Most people hate Hidan for what he did to Asuma, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. This foul-mouthed warrior inflicted the same death on many people while also enjoying his deeds.

Shikamaru’s funeral of this hideous character was the perfect punishment for such a hated figure. An eternity surrounded by nothing may be just what Hidan needs to be humble.

2 kakuzu

Hidan’s partner was also quite bloodthirsty in his own right, making this duo arguably the most unjustified evil of the bunch in Akatsuki. There was almost nothing positive about these characters, who got their powers after torturing and killing a lot of shinobi.

Watching this character absolutely get destroyed by the Rasenshuriken was easily one of the most satisfying moments in the entire show. All his hearts were destroyed at once, ending the threat of one of the most powerful antagonists in the world. Naruto until that moment.

1 Deidara

Taking names out of Akatsuki is a given for this list, given how many characters in this group were almost comically bad. This is the case with Deidara, whose ninja prowess basically amounted to being an unhinged bomber.

From the wacky names of his explosive clay to the over-the-top nature of his explosions, Deidara is easily one of the more comedic villains on this list. That said, it’s clear that his past is drenched in blood from all the bombings he must have caused for his own amusement.
