WARNING: Manga Spoilers aheadGiven the maturity of more than 20 years, A piece has long been the center of shounen anime and manga. Since the first few arcs, Eiichiro Oda has shown an incredible number of traces and clues to certain storylines and kept certain characters in limbo for a long time. This includes characters from the alleged Void Century, which remains a mystery in its own right, along with the Roger pirates right up to the current stage of the story.
As the Manga gets closer to the end of the Wano Country arc and the story reportedly enters its final saga by Oda himself, the mysteries and theories that fans have analyzed over the years will be answered.
7 Gol D. Roger
The first mystery character fans are suggested at launch A piece is the former Pirate King Gol D. Roger in the opening opening, “We Are.” He is known as the one who fueled the new generation of pirates, mentioning the existence of the One Piece and its significance to have “everything the world has to offer”.
Fans familiar with both the anime and manga will be aware of the flashbacks, which include some of the Roger Pirates’ adventures. From what Oda has shown, there are still mysteries with this character in the sense of seeing the events of the God Valley incident and the discovery of the One Piece. It’s safe to say that fans’ questions about this character will be answered sooner rather than later.
6 Dracule Mihawk
One of the more unsolved riddles in the world of A piece is that of Dracule Mihawk. After his first appearance in the Baratie arc and his demonstration of complete dominance over our protagonist’s first mate, Roronoa Zoro, fans continue to speculate about Mihawk’s origins and where his motives lie. Viewers will be aware of his connection to Shanks and the fact that the two are sparring.
The former member of Shichibukai (Seven Warlords of the Sea) is now believed to be under the command of Buggy, who was recently named a Yonko, in an alliance known as ‘Cross Guild’. One thing fans of the series will know and be familiar with are Oda’s hints of what’s to come, so the required context is definitely on the way.
5 Roronoa Zoro
While Zoro’s backstory can be seen in this story, a few unanswered questions about the swordsman’s lineage remain. Indeed, the most his family or relatives have alluded to was within the Wano Country arc, as the comparisons between Ryuma and Zoro were present. A flashback of Yamato’s featured another swordsman known as Shimotsuki Ushimaru, with many fans immediately thinking that this was Zoro’s father.
After this was discussed on Oda’s SBS, he confirmed that this is not Zoro’s father. Despite this, viewers continue to speculate and draw theories as to whether Ushimaru does indeed have any relationship with Zoro, given how similar they both look. As the story reaches its climax, it’s only reasonable to believe this will be covered soon enough.
4 Gorosei
As things stand now, the World Government in the world of A piece is shrouded in mystery, and these mysterious figures continue to stir the pot among fans. The Gorosei (five elders) are believed to be the highest authority in world government next to Imu, and appear to play a crucial role in the fabric of the world.
As viewers know, those within the “D” clan are the natural enemies of the World Nobles, also known as the Heavenly Dragons. Fans are still yet to get clarification on what all these story plots mean, but one thing’s for sure: the Gorosei are in the same discussion.
3 Monkey D. Garp
As the grandfather of Monkey D. Luffy, Garp is an interesting character to say the least. Faced with the ideals of duty and family, Oda has managed to become one of, if not the most complex characters in the whole of A piece that fans have seen so far. This is present in the Marineford war as he is put in the position to oppose his grandchildren in the adopted Portgas D. Ace and Luffy.
Despite his emphasis on the idea of his duty as a Marine, he still succumbs to the love of his family. After Ace’s death at the hands of Admiral Akainu, some fans expressed their frustration with Garp and his inability to save Ace. Fans are still wondering where his main ideal lies and how much he balances duty and family.
2 Monkey D. Dragon
In the powerhouse of the Monkey D family comes Dragon, Luffy’s father. After the big reveal and reveal in the wake of the Water Seven and Enies Lobby arcs, Dragon has had a much more reserved presence in the story. As Garp’s son, fans continue to theorize what Dragon’s real background is.
Some of these theories include his relationship with Garp, his experience with the Celestial Dragons and the World Government that eventually resulted in his direct war against them no matter how powerful he was, and why he was unable to grow up with Luffy. As the war between the Revolutionaries and the World Government gets underway, it’s only a matter of time before fans learn more.

Recently, fans have shown great suspicion towards Shanks as many have pondered what his true intentions are. In chapter 1054, Shanks was shown asking his first mate Benn Beckmann if it was time to claim the One Piece after examining Luffy’s new wanted poster. Earlier in the Reverie amid Wano, Shanks paid a visit to the Gorosei to talk about a “certain pirate,” once again leaving viewers in the unknown.
Based on Roger and Oden’s flashbacks, fans know that Shanks was unable to make the final trip to the Laugh Tale with the Roger Pirates when he nursed a sick Buggy. If there’s one current mystery that could shock fans, it would most certainly be Shanks’ identity and motives, as he poses a potential threat to Luffy’s goal of the King of the Pirates.
