As you might expect, Activision is again beta testing for this year’s Call of Duty game (Modern Warfare 2). Thankfully, we now know what Modern Warfare 2’s full beta schedule is for all platforms, and yes, PlayStation gamers are once again getting exclusive early access.

Modern Warfare 2 beta scheme:

Weekend One (excluding PlayStation)

  • September 16 – 17: Early Access | PlayStation (start time is 10am PT/1pm ET/1pm HKT)
  • September 18 – September 2: Open Beta | Play station

Time to Play: Weekend One: First on PlayStation®(1)

The first beta weekend is available on PlayStation® 4 and PlayStation®5 and runs from Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. PT until tuesday 20 september. This weekend is only for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players. You can access the beta without needing the PlayStation Plus subscription service.(2,3)

Early Access to PlayStation: Those who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, or received a beta code, can start playing the beta on Friday, September 16 at 10 a.m. PT.

Playstation open beta: The rest of the weekend, from Sunday, September 18 at 10 a.m. PT until tuesday 20 september, is open to all PlayStation players regardless of pre-order status. PlayStation players can now experience the impressive amount of beta content available in Modern Warfare IIand unlock rewards available in-game at launch.

Weekend Two (Crossplay Beta)

  • September 22 – 23: Early Access | Xbox + PC Open Beta | PlayStation (start time is 10am PT/1pm ET/1pm HKT
  • September 24 – 26: Open Beta | All platforms

Time to Play: Weekend Two: All Platforms (Crossplay)(1)

The second weekend of beta is available on all console platforms and PC, and is scheduled to begin Thursday, September 22 at 10 a.m. PT until Monday September 26. Crossplay will be active so you can party with friends and the wider community regardless of what hardware they’re playing on.

Playstation 4 and Playstation 5: It doesn’t matter if you pre-ordered the game or not, Weekend 2 is a free open beta for all PlayStation 4 and 5 owners.

Early Access to Xbox and PC: Those who pre-ordered the game for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or pre-purchased the game for PC via Blizzard Battle.net or Steam can start playing the beta at Thursday, September 22 at 10 a.m. PT. Xbox Live Gold is required for Xbox players and PC players must have a Battle.net or Steam account.

Xbox and PC Open Beta: The rest of the weekend, from Saturday, September 24 at 10 a.m. PT until Monday September 26, is accessible to Xbox and PC players regardless of pre-order status. The entire community can now experience the impressive amount of beta content available in Modern Warfare IIunlock rewards available in-game at launch and play together.

As before, pre-ordering the game will give gamers early access to the MW2 beta, though they expect Activision to be generous with the codes as well.

In addition, a Marina Bay Gran Prix map flythrough has also been revealed! The Grand Prix card will be one of the cards playable in the beta.

Activision also shared information about what players can expect from the multiplayer beta and confirmed that there will be rewards for participating!

The Modern Warfare II Beta will provide a robust multiplayer experience beyond the Core 6v6 experience with a variety of carefully designed maps of different sizes, and an equally impressive array of modes, progression experiences and other aspects that will be revealed more thoroughly on Call of Duty: Next. Additionally, on Champs, we unveiled a flythrough of Marina Bay Grand Prix, where battles take place in the main field of an urban racetrack, one of the 6v6 Multiplayer maps confirmed for the beta. With a number of in-game rewards available for simply playing the beta (available at launch of WWII if you own the game), and a host of other innovations and surprises, expect an unparalleled drop in information at the Next one event.

In addition to a variety of in-game rewards, players who unlock the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare II can use the following rewards during the beta:

  • All four operators of the Red Team 141 – Ghost, Farah, Price and Soap – each wear a special masked outfit.
  • The FJX Cinder gun safe.

Finally, the company also announced that Infinty Ward will give gamers a behind-the-scenes look at the development and “innovations” coming to Modern Warfare 2! The first intel drop will appear on Infinity Ward’s Twitter and will be pushed “soon”.

Don’t forget that the Call of Duty Next event, where we’ll see the full multiplayer reveal, will take place on September 15th!
