The MCU has allowed its characters to evolve in relation to their environment. With every threat that enters the universe comes the need to adapt, meaning many heroes will have to change their approach if they hope to be victorious. Some will try to upgrade their costumes, but others will fall victim to their classic attire, refusing to believe it plays such an important role.

8 Spider Man

Prior to his first meeting with Tony Stark, Peter Parker was a petty crime fighter who had to make his own way in an unforgiving world. Every Spider-Man portrayed in the cinema had to create his own suit to fight crime and while Tom Holland’s version is never seen during the creation process, the end result is downright comical.

After trying to stop the Vulture on his own, Spider-Man: HomecomingTony Stark frees Peter from his upgraded suit, forcing the young crime fighter to return to his roots. Unlike his more iconic Spider-Man costume, Peter’s first outfit was more reminiscent of pajamas than a crime-fighting suit. It was a baggy amalgamation of colorful fabrics that made him more of a target than a hero.

7 Doctor Strange

After leaving his medical field, Doctor Stephen Strange embarked on a journey to unlock the magical powers that resided within him. Though it took some time, Strange became one of the most powerful wizards to ever exist, but his possession of incredible strength doesn’t absolve him of his bad fashion sense.

He dresses as you would imagine a wizard, with elegant robes and a cape. His position of power requires him to dress appropriately, but his choice of clothing can only do so much for him in a combat situation. Although his cape has saved him many times, wearing a living creature around the neck is far from practical, no matter how loyal it is to the wearer.

6 Bruce Banner/Hulk

It’s refreshing to see what heroes do in their spare time, especially when an audience can empathize with their efforts. Hulk’s image in Avengers: Endgame serves to reveal a much more humanistic side of his hulking alter ego, but perhaps he should have invested in a new set of clothes for the transition.

For the events of EndgameAfter transforming, the Hulk would typically be seen wearing nothing more than ripped shorts. Though Bruce tries to correct this portrayal of himself, his choice of casual wear presents him as much less threatening than he once was. While he is completely within his rights to wear what he feels comfortable in, it might have been smarter to prepare something better suited for the final battle against Thanos.

5 Green Goblin

When Norman Osborn isn’t parading around in one of his formal suits, he will usually be seen flying through the air on his glider in a ridiculous green suit of armor. After straying into another universe, Norman destroys his goblin helmet in an attempt to break the suit’s hold on him, but this newfound freedom doesn’t do much for his fashion sense.

After the destruction of his mask, Norman decides to cover his armor with clothing to hide the power he exerts. The clothes are quickly torn and torn during his first fight, but he refuses to take them off. Each strand hangs by a thread, but Norman finds it necessary to hold them on to his armor anyway.

4 hawkeye

Hawkeye’s placement in the ranks of the Avenger is due to his impressive archery skills. It is fast and agile, two qualities that allow it to quickly rise to great heights. This, accompanied by his impressive aim, allows him to send enemies from incredible distances.

Hawkeye has gone through multiple costume changes during his time in the MCU, and for good reason. Although his original choice of clothing favored dexterity, it undoubtedly left him open to approaching attacks from his enemies. The lack of sleeves also makes him much more likely to get injured while climbing. If he didn’t change in the end, this outfit could have easily been his downfall.

3 Black Widow

Introduced in Iron Man 2Natasha Romanoff has become one of the most iconic Avengers on the team. She is a trained Black Widow, meaning she is a skilled assassin who is only capable of defeating a select few in combat. Although she lacks the otherworldly abilities of her comrades, this does not diminish the raw human strength she harbors.

Natasha became a much more powerful presence in The Avengers where both she and her team were tasked with defeating Loki. Most of her comrades approach the battle with effective protective equipment, but Natasha decides to arrive in a catsuit. This outfit may have looked good, but it served little purpose in combat.

2 Moon Knight

Steven Grant once lived the life of an ordinary man, but eventually learned that his mind is home to another, more sinister version of himself. After discovering the alter ego that resides within him, Steven is forced into a world of danger that requires him to retrace his steps and uncover his origins. Unlike his more confident counterpart, Marc Spector, Steven is unfamiliar with the world of crime and the chaos that lives in it.

To protect himself from his enemies, he calls on Khonshu’s powers and materializes equipment to aid him in battle. Marc used these skills to create a costume that instilled fear in those who opposed him, but Steven opted for something more sophisticated. When he owns his body, Steven will be seen wearing a beautiful white suit and mask. While it might earn him some points in a fashion show, it’s far from a practical choice of clothing to fight the forces of evil.

1 Scarlet Witch

Prior to her much needed costume change seen in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Wanda Maximoff wore simple outfits that made her look ordinary. Her evolution in the MCU has made her one of the most powerful characters in the franchise, so it was about time she got the right clothes to get this across.

Before embracing her full power, Wanda fought alongside the Avengers in plain clothes that helped her little in battle. The outfit she’s wearing Captain America: Civil War consists of a corset with a long blazer style coat partially covering it. This odd outfit choice is destined to limit her movements and thus reduce the overall strength she exerts. Although she is one of the strongest creatures in the MCU, her impractical and over-sexualized costume design tried to diminish the power she could unleash.
